ST: The Mongol army's presence over Persia was unprecedented to say the least for its Muslim citizens, as they were everything politically, socially, and culturally that former Islamic principles were against. One example is the increase of taxes and harsher capitol punishments. In terms of environmental consequences, they would transform their new territory to fit their pastoralist life style, much to little to no success. Economically, Persia saw an increase in the production and trade of silk and alcohol

TB: The Mongol's politically charged raid against Baghdad and its people is a prime example of their barbaric influence. Genghis Khan's effective rampage throughout the city would not only signify the deaths of thousands, but Islamic architecture and culture as we knew it with the fall of Islam's House of Wisdom.

Wassaf, The Mongol Empire, 1258

"The arrows and bolts, the lances and spears, the stones from the slings and catapults of both sides shot swiftly up to heaven, like the messengers of the prayers of the just, then fell as swiftly, like the judgements of fate. . . . In this way, Baghdad was besieged and terrorized for fifty days."

From this primary source, it is a viable assumption that the Mongols were a force of immense power, as they had effectively sieged Baghdad before even stepping foot in the city. With their unmatched knowledge of war, they terrorized and conquered the Arab caliphates, ultimately sealing the fate for Islam for decades to come.

ST: Following the end of Mongol rule, Persia would see itself in political turmoil for nearly two hundred years, up until the age of the Safavid empire. This unity of Persia wouldn't flourish without consequences, as heated political and religious differences between the Ottoman and Safavid empires would arise and continue for centuries to come.

TB: While the Mongol armies excelled in brutality and conquest, their governing was severely flawed, which subsequently meant the fall of the Mongol empire. This downfall would allow the Turkish Ottomans to strengthen their empire for centuries to come.

In circa 1250-1350, the Mongols had their reign of conquering and terrorizing countless civilizations. And of these victims of their ruthless conquests was Baghdad, a remarkable city that proudly displayed the ambitions and culture of Islam to a unbelievable degree. What was a hub for knowledge now lay in ruins.

With their horrifying reputation, they had effectively seized Baghdad before even entering into the capitol itself, they turned the place to ruin, destroying everything and everyone in sight.

In the aftermath, they continued to rule our sacred land and even adopted our culture. They were everything politically, socially, and culturally we stood against, yet they assimilated into our lifestyle despite their unsurmountable damage on our Islamic history.

Even after their reign of terror was over, Islam itself would stand divided for centuries and empires to come.
