Abaca banana plants are grown in the Philippines in a natural ecosystem without chemical treatments. These plants are part of a sustainable forest project in Cataduenes that supports local farmers and reforestation. When the plant decomposes naturally, it creates a natural fertilizer. Fibers are extracted and boiled then pressed into sheets. Then, they go through a paper making and yarn spinning process in Taiwan. When dying, they use a traditional yarn dying method. It ends up being a very strong and durable while keeping its promise of sustainability.

Bananatex has partnered with brands that use their materials and are committed to sustainability my COS, H & M, and Stella McCartney. They use the material to make bags specifically. Stella McCartney is known as a luxury brand who makes all their products with vegan materials. Other end uses for Bananatex may be parts of Shoes, Coats, and T-shirts. It is a very flexible material because of the many different weights it can sustain.
