I don't know that educational technology could ever fully replace a teacher. Unless we progress to the point that the technology is actively caring for its students like an AI. There is so much more to teaching than just standing in front of students and talking that I feel like if tech was to ever fully and successfully replace teachers, it would be a very very long time from now.

I think that depends on the context. Hoping for educational technology to be able to teach, implement and revise teaching strategies, and adapt to various scenarios with students is not the best choice. However, I do believe teaching technology can provide opportunities for students that some teachers might not be able to provide. I found one website that allowed for chemistry experiments to be carried out, and it was free to use. I think that technology is unable to replace teachers for the sole purpose of teaching, but could easily replace them in terms of provided opportunities for students.

I think that we will always need traditional teachers and teaching. We always make advances, such as Robotic Surgery, but we still need surgeons. It goes the same for teaching.

Depends on the context. I do not see robots taking over but I can imagine more educational technology platforms becoming more popular. I can especially see this type of technology taking off in the homeschooling sector. I feel as if brick and mortar will maintain teachers - especially for the "extra curriculum" aspect.

I don't expect technology will replace a teacher in many settings. In elementary school, for example, there are too many skills required that technology cannot replace, such as classroom management. Relationships are so important in most classroom settings, it is difficult to replace the presence of a teacher who works to build a strong community within the classroom.

I can see some making the argument saying that technology could replace teachers, but I honestly don't see that happening. The main reason being that, teaching requires a type of intuition, whether its through understanding human behavior or just understanding children, technology is a straight path on how to do things, whereas humans kind of likes to go the curvy path in life. That's how you make learnings more interesting, if you just talk about the subject but nothing else, then teachers lose engagement and students are less willing to learn.

Technology could never take the place of a teacher. Students need more than education from books or computer resources, they need the emotional support, love, and conditioning that only teachers can provide them. We are there to help them become respectful people.

While I certainly see technology taking the place of other aspects of education and the advent of the virtual academy is concerning, I do not see that the profession of teaching is going anywhere soon.

If the goal of education is simply to teach the students content, then sure we could go to a fully virtual and technologically driven coursework. The converse is true though, the goal is the development of the whole student not just the content we teach. The teacher fills the role of educator and mentor. The content is just one of the many things a teacher teaches their students and that cannot be done by any form of A.I. nor can technology replace those functions of the educator.

I think it is rather unlikely it will occur; at the very least no time in the near future. Technology currently is missing the human element in learning, the "soul" of what makes a person a person, rather than crude matter attempting to mimic human expression and connection. Technology can provide the facilities to communicate, empathize, and grow understanding, but it can not do so on its own. However, if they are anything like our friend Data after his character arc, then perhaps it is not out of the question of possibility.
