How and Why did your family come to the United States?

My Grandparents came to the U.S to seek out new opportunities financially because in Mexico the economy had crashed and inflation had increased over 100%. Many Mexicans had come over at this time to find a better life.

What were the obstacles that they met?

I think some of the obstacles that they were faced with was trying to find a place to stay and also housing, because they weren't documented at the time when they came over to the U.S, and that really affected them because it would affect where they were at and where they could be at. For my mom in her childhood she has told me that when she was in school she had to move around different school's a lot and they would move to a different house or apartment and that would affect my mom because she would have to talk to new people often and try not to get too comfortable. Another big obstacle was the language barrier, and t getting used to the customers in America.

What was going on Historically in the U.S. during this time and did it affect your family?

My grandparents came to the U.S in the 1980's in which at this time Ronald Reagan and the Soviet leader eased tensions between the two powers, ending the cold war. Also the Berlin wall had collapsed during this time. Blockbuster movies and MTV reshaped the pop culture.
