I wasn't appreciative of my family members or the things I had until COVID happened. When it first came around I didn't take it seriously. I wouldn't wear a mask or listen to the news reports on how many deaths and cases there were. That quickly ended when my brother first came out positive. My brother didn't live with us at the time but he was always around so the rest of my family and I got COVID also. My brother was engaged to my sister in law (SIL) and they have a baby. When we all got diagnosed with COVID we couldn't leave the house and no one came by. I didn't realize how much I'd miss them or the memories I have with them. The next couple weeks were the hardest for my family and I.

It was very difficult to not have someone to talk to until I realized I have a mom that cares about me. I became closer to my mom during that time and it made that time a little bit better. COVID for me was bad, I had all the symptoms, barely ate, puked a lot, slept all the time, and my body hurt so bad once I was awake. There was one point where I could've gone to the hospital because I couldn't keep my food down. I thought it was bad for me but it was even worse for my brother. My brother didn't survive through COVID but he tried his best. That is my main reason to appreciate the people and things in my life.

After COVID it was extremely hard for my family and we changed a lot. We try to cherish memories together and make time to see each other. For my niece however, we make sure she knows who her dad is by telling her stories. My life lesson is now appreciate everyone and everything and to cherish it when you have it. Nothing lasts forever.
