1. Academic claims are exchanged, challenged and discussed over an extended period of time until an agreement is reached. It could be in the form of academic essays and speeches.

2. A formal speaking event, usually held in an academic setting with an audience and a teacher, who usually takes up the position of the judge. The difference between Parliamentary debate & Presidential Debate:

Parliamentary Debate:
- Conducted under the formal rules of parliamentary procedures.
- Discuss motions relating to laws or regulations to come to a decision about them. 

Presidential Debate:
- Debate between candidates trying to win an election.
- Special type of debate that have specific individual roles.

Televised Debate:
- A form of media that changes the way politics has impacted us today.
