The Secretariat delivers two (2) in-person Plenary Meetings (like an AGM) with the support of the Staff. There are two plenaries per year in June and November. Ideally, all Secretariat members would attend the Plenary, and the meeting is chaired by the outgoing "Rotating Facilitator".

In-between meetings the Secretariat may receive 1-3 emails per week. Most of these are information-only emails. Depending on their sub-group membership, they may receive emails where they need to take action or make a decision or a contribution. The staff support their decision-making through research and presenting briefs to aid this decision-making.

There are 9 Secretariat members, three (3) from each college: community & voluntary, social inclusion, and environment. The Secretariat works in a "Flat Structure". One key feature of this is the "Rotating Facilitator" All Secretariat Members should have an opportunity to serve as "Rotating Facilitator".

There are opportunities to sit on sub-groups or working groups: such as HR Liaison, Governance, Finance and individual projects.

The Secretariat develop the work plan and budget and present this to the Plenary for approval. They oversee and support the staff to carry out the work plan and spend the budget during the year through the HR Liaison Sub-group. 

Who are the members?

The Task Force is made up of representatives from the following groups and organisations:

Cork City Council, Cork Prison, Cork ETB, Department of Social Protection, Garda Siochana, Probation Service, Voluntary cluster, Co-ordinator SRDATF, Liaison Person DPU, HSE Co-ordinator of Drug & Alcohol Services, Cork City Council – Social Inclusion.

Candidate Statement: 

Konrad Im: Gay Project 

I am putting myself forward for the LCDC as I am deeply committed to building a more inclusive, equitable, and connected community in Cork City. With lots of experience in grassroots activism, voluntary leadership, and professional community development, I bring both lived and professional view to this role. 

Since 2015, I have been actively involved with the Gay Project, where I now serve as Manager, supporting and empowering the LGBTI+ community through advocacy, events, and vital services. My background includes extensive voluntary leadership: from my time as a Youth Leader with UP Cork to Board roles with Cork LGBT+ Pride Festival and founding Ballyphehane Tidy Towns to foster inclusive, safe public spaces. I also sit on the board of Ballyphehane Community Association. 

Academically, I hold a BA in Community Development, a Postgraduate Diploma in Community and Voluntary Sector Management (UCC), and a Level 9 qualification in Creativity & Change (MTU). These have equipped me with the tools to navigate statutory structures, work collaboratively across sectors, and meaningfully engage with communities.  

I understand the strategic and operational demands of the LCDC and am committed to contributing to its goals – particularly around inclusion, integration, and participatory local development. I would be honoured to represent the Social Inclusion Pillar.

Frances Lynch: Meitheal Mara

I have been involved in the community and voluntary sector in Cork City for a number of years, mostly through my involvement with Meitheal Mara. I have been a board member of Meitheal Mara for the past two years. I have an interest in the development of the city, in particular with making it a better city to live in.

Dylan Krug: The Environmental Forum

Hello, my name is Dylan Krug. I am a life long climate activist and immigrant to Ireland. I have been living here for the past 6 years and in that time completed an undergraduate at Trinity College in environmental sciences and a masters at UCC in environmental law. During my undergraduate academic research I conducted a literature review on the effectiveness of 'eco-tourism' in facilitating economic growth and conservation goals. Additionally, while not directly related to tourism, I conducted my masters dissertation on the topic of flood risk management policy in Ireland, using Cork City as a case study. This has left me with a comprehensive understanding of the council's mechanisms and objectives. I believe my law / science background and experience as, initially a tourist, now resident of Ireland will allow me to contribute to the spectrum of topics under International Relations & Tourism. Kevin Long: Cork Cycling Campaign

Currently I serve as Vice-Chair of Cork Cycling Campaign. In recent years I have been project lead on new initiatives to promote cycling and cycling safety in Cork, including Cycling Cities: The Cork Experience, a book project collaboration with University of Eindhoven, and the Telraam sensor campaign, a community-led traffic counting project. I am also involved in the Infrastructure submissions team within Cork Cycling Campaign,  to submit our observations to consultations  on active travel schemes.
