Gangster Capitalism - Podcast Response

My second takeaway from the Gangster Capitalism Podcast shows my development and how far I've come along with my writing ability. This evidence exhibits the development in listening to understand when consuming media and displays my strength for in taking information and applying it in school. This text shows how I am able to pick out the important bits of a media text and bring it together to re-tell the story. It highlights my strengths in media because you can see how I connect with the text in a meaningful way and put emotion into my work. I am able to listen and intake media not in just a general way but more of a personal perspective, I find this helps me feel more motivated and this strategy helps me to excell in my work. I also shows my strength in media by trying my best to understand the meaning and emotions that the text is trying to convey, I am able to find some sort of connection. Even if it's TTT, TTW or TTS I always make an effort to make a connection to show my investment and interest in the media and to even just show I'm capable of going that next step.

Media Texts - SOAL Padlet

My thoughts and ideas for the SOAL Timeline displays my ability to look past the text and into a deeper meaning. It also shows how I can use my imagination to even bring the text to life in a way. This evidence shows my strength in applying text to different forms on media. For my book one question, I used a description of what I pictured when reading the text and used AI to bring it to life. From there I am able to identify and bring out a deeper meaning, specifically how the picture can relate to my question and the text. I am able to look at the text from different perspective and even give the reader of my text and opportunity to make their own inferences and even use readers response to look at my work. I tend to step out of my comfort zone because it allows me to look at texts and questions from more than just my perspective. This strategy is extremely helpful because it shows that I can look even beyond the text and make my own inferences. For specifically this contribution, I felt very connected to it because I had a picture no one else has used and I was able to express what story I got from looking at the picture, and how it connected the media we were assigned. Overall, this shows how well I am able to connect and show readers an out of the box view on media texts.

ShortWorks Presentation - Fear Factor

For the Short Works presentation I demonstrated a development of my oral skills and even excelled in the execution of my oral communication. I believe that this feedback shows evidence of my growth in the oral communication strand and the amount of effort I put in to go above and beyond for this assignment. For the preparation prior to presenting, I did have this nagging feeling of anxiety and failure due to past presentations, but I did make it a goal to improve in my oral communication skills. For my process I dedicated time to practicing in front of the mirror, at home and with peers. This helped me to build up more and more confidence. This was a mistake I made last year, I didn't take the time to practice so when I got up there I didn't feel comfortable at all and messed up. I made sure that when I got up there in front of my peers, I spoke clearly, loudly, and that my pacing was consistant and easy to follow along. One of the biggest challanges I had last year was eye contact. This year, since I felt better and more confident in my presentation, I barley looked at my page and was able to maintain eye contact with my peers and my teacher. I feel that it helped me connect with my audience and made the presentation more interesting and kept them wanting more. I believe the feedback that Mrs. Fitz provided showed evidence of not only my strength and improvement in oral communication but how I excelled in it. I am extremely proud in myself because compared to my last presentation (Grade 11 Fallen Feathers) I haved improved drastically and I am glad that I, my peers, and my teacher have recognized the growth as well.

Hamlet Monologue

For my Hamlet Monologue I believe that I did a good job in connecting with the character and delivering the monologue, but I do believe that there could have been room for improvement and an area for continued growth. This feedback from Mrs. Fitz shows how I met the expectations for this assignment but also shows area for continued growth. To be completely honest I did my monologue in one night and only practiced for an hour beforehand, but I did struggle to remember the words and not look at a script. I am proud of myself for the emotion I put in because I remember when watching back my retakes I had no emotion on my face and I couldn't figure out why I was doing that. I did have to do a lot of retakes but in the end I was able to do the monologue without really looking at a script and with the best amount of emotion I could put on my face and incorporate into my voice. In the oral part I do believe if I practiced more I could have done a better job and had a better execution. I do believe in the end it was well said and done and I am proud of my work, but I know I can do better. I took this feedback and applied it to future oral communication in our class and it helped a lot, it shows how I am able to apply critical feedback and use it to push me forward to success.
