         <description><![CDATA[<p>As the managing director of Zenith Development, Charles Akerlow has helped build Utah's economy with numerous commercial and residential projects. Charles Akerlow is also the longtime CEO and president of Akerlow Thomas Dyer and Protetta, Inc., which has constructed more than 1.5 million square feet of office, industrial, and commercial space, as well as many housing opportunities.</p><p>Mr. Akerlow also served in the Armed Forces, training as a US Army captain at the Armor Center in Fort Knox, Kentucky. He also oversaw civil affairs during the Vietnam War and operated an intelligence program. For these efforts, he was given the Bronze Star.</p><p>Back at home, Mr. Akerlow has been involved in economic improvement agencies, such as the Salt Lake Model Cities Program. His work also promoted neighborhood associations throughout the state. Mr. Akerlow also has supported organizations such as the Deseret LDS Hospital Foundation, the US Chamber of Commerce, and the Utah Symphony. A member of the Republican Party, he was a delegate at three national conventions.</p><p>In addition, Mr. Akerlow has close ties to the University of Utah, where he earned degrees in political science and philosophy and took courses in the university's law school. He was also the project manager of the College of Medicine's Intermountain Regional Medical Program, which established community health agencies. Mr. Akerlow also taught journalism and political science at the university and participated in its continuing education division.</p>]]></description>
