Beat It Percussion
Promoting Well-Being & Good Mental Health Through Rhythm & Sound
Beat It Percussion CIC aims to promote good mental health and support well-being through the medium of rhythm and sound.

They became a Community Interest Company in 2013 and have built a track record for providing therapeutic drumming and sound relaxation for a diverse range of groups in the community. Their innovative work with people who are living with dementia and their carers is well-recognised.

Now based in Sandwell and Birmingham, Beat It is establishing itself as a service provider across the region.

Services:
Rhythm for The Brain (formerly Rhythm for Well-being) Sessions are multi-sensory music workshops for of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. The majority of their Rhythm for the Brain sessions are provided for adults aged 50 and over and those with additional support needs.

Sound Relaxation

Imagine being in a peaceful, safe space, leaving all your worries and responsibilities behind and being bathed in beautiful, mesmerising sounds. You enter a dream-like state, floating on the sounds and experiencing pure relaxation. That is a Sound Bath.

We started to notice how people were drawn to our relaxing sensory instruments when we used them to finish our Rhythm for the Brain sessions. Many people respond very quickly to the overlapping harmonics produced by a tongue drum, or the sound of waves made by the Ocean drum.

A Gentle Beat project draws from techniques and instruments from the sound therapy discipline giving people who are often overlooked the opportunity for a creative experience. They passionately believe that people at all stages of life have the right to enjoy creativity and intimate human communications. This project is targeted at settings providing end-of-life and nursing care.

Community arts and voluntary sector projects
Their interactive and relaxation sessions lend themselves to community and themed events focused on well-being and interaction. Over the last 11 years Beat It Percussion has been involved in many community arts ventures from carnivals to concerts, themed events and busking.

Intergenerational Work using rhythm to integrate diverse groups in the community

Beat It Percussion is a dementia-friendly organisation. This important part of their work aims to embed greater awareness about dementia and its related issues within our communities, and recognising their continuing value as individuals in our society.

Fear and misunderstanding surround the subjects of ageing and dementia in the wider community. Through bringing children and young people into close contact with people in care settings this begins to change to acceptance and understanding. They use rhythm, song and socialising to introduce school children to elders and create events that are uplifting and rewarding for all who participate.

Work Experience
Beat It Percussion met with the Sandwell College Work Experience team and are looking to offer placements to students from various departments including music and performing arts, art and design, photography, computing, business and public service. Placements may include community sessions, preparing leaflets and publicity material, preparing online content and sound recording.

Percussion sessions
They are also able to offer sessions to foundation learning students at the college which include sensory learning and this is something that the foundation learning team are exploring.

Contact:
Lynn Kay (CEO)
Email: info@beatitpercussion.co.uk

Telephone
07875 090 946

Website: https://www.beatitpercussion.co.uk/

Multistory Community Arts

Multistory is a community arts organisation. Based in the borough of Sandwell since 2006. They build meaningful connections between local communities and artists to produce creative projects that tell stories of everyday life. They believe in the power of art to reflect the times we live in and tell stories to bring people together. The programme of participatory arts projects, workshops, talks and events takes place in libraries, community centers and indoor and outdoor public spaces. The stories told through our projects have a local resonance but are also seen by audiences far beyond, both in national exhibitions and through our digital programme. Calling all the adventurers, aspiring entrepreneurs, and those looking to make a change in the world.
