My favorite unit was TTTC and Beloved, because I really enjoyed the reading and was able to learn and grow from different perspectives and writing. They both had very meaningful themes and messages that resonated with me.

My favorite unit was the Beloved unit. As hard as the novel was to understand at times, I loved the various themes that we explored in the book, and the different interpretations that I got to hear about the same event in the book.

I enjoyed Beloved because this is definitely the best and most complex novel I have ever read! I also enjoyed the Beloved project to because it gave me the space to reflect on the novel and connections I could make with it.

I liked the Beloved Unit the most because I believe Toni Morrison to be the most talented writer among every author we read this year. Beloved also seems to be the most complex and interesting story with great discussions surrounding its themes and meanings - Adrian

my favorite was definitely Hamlet. Watching the different performances during class and getting to act out all the different scenes from the play was so much fun.

My absolute favorite unit would probably be a tie between pride and prejudice and beloved :) pride and prejudice is simply an all time favorite of mine and the deeper understanding I got from this class completely changed my outlook on this book and its meaning. I think the beloved unit held some of my favorite discussions ever in high school and I loved the depth of analysis and the new ideas that resulted from them :)

My advice for next year's seniors would be to stay on top of the reading, as it's hard to catch up once you're behind, and you miss out on understanding class activities and discussions, which are soo important.

Be diligent and proactive in your schoolwork till the end. It really pays off and try to make an effort to befriend classmates and tablemates, you might be surprised with how cool they turn out to be.

my biggest advice is to just take in every moment and to enjoy it to its fullest because it really does go by faster than you can imagine. first semester balancing college apps can be extremely overwhelming but it’s so important to just remember everything truly will work out

poetry; didn’t particularly enjoy it initially but looking back it felt like it was the most impactful unit out of all of them likely due to the difference of content and varying themes compared to each of the books(which were each really impactful in their own way of course) but the poems found a way to compact the message and meaning into so many frequent and shorter pieces of literature

Make sure to actually do all your reading, all the books we read this year are so good!! Also join in on the discussions and make friends with the people around you , it makes class so much more fun and insightful.

I would tell the seniors that it is ok if you feel like you are initially behind in the summatives, especially if you are struggling to finish the time writes. Over time, with practice and the way this class involves table discussions, you will become better and quicker at writing.

2 For next year’s seniors, I would recommend them to not procrastinate too much in the process essays. but I’ll also urge them to take it easy on themselves. Senior year is a pretty hard year, so they shouldn’t sweat the small stuff.

TTTC was my favorite unit by far. it was a lot of fun to read it and learn how authors actually write books!

For next years seniors, i want to tell them to never give up and actually put in the effort!

My advice for seniors next year is to discover what is most important to them, and focus on what is most important.. I found that there is a big difference between knowing what is important to you, and actually putting value on those things, because it is very easy to focus on things that are knowingly not important.

My favorite was definitely Beloved. I think it was a unique text that allowed for dialogue to be opened that is usually not talked about (especially in Irvine), and it was a good text that I think was simultaneously intellectually provocative and substantive independently as a work of literature; I also really enjoyed the liberty in how the essay assignment was structured.

Everyone talks about the senior slump and how hard it is to get out of. Especially during the first semester, being in that slump IS NOT AN OPTION. You’ll be doing the most important stuff during that time and most rides on your performance of that semester.

HAVE SO MUCH FUN!! this class is so amazing when you really let yourself go and throw yourself completely into it 🫶🏻 don’t be afraid to share your thoughts no matter how wacky or incomplete they may seem. The environment of this class is so supportive and I guarantee you your input will add so much to the class discussions :)

Hey my beauties. Trust me everything will be okay. Especially this year, I have tried to use this one technique of always saying “I can do hard things” before every difficult thing I’ve done. Whether it be performing improv in front of the entire school or having to show up to school when my anxiety is too bad, I have always made it through the hardest parts of my life by saying “I can do hard things, I have in the past”. Also, if you are driven by bettering yourself, think about it in that aspect!! When you get through the tough parts of senior year (aka college apps and senioritis), you get to give advice just like I am now! Yall are amazing and YOU can do hard things. Love you all❤️
