This evidence connects with the claim because there were many birds in 1976 before the drought began, and many plants that they could eat and live off them to survive because of there type of beak in that is perfect for this environment and food. So now after the drought in 1978, the plant population decreased dramatically as with the birds that depended on the plants. So the birds with beaks that depended on plants decreased. But the ones with long narrow beaks for bugs increased.

This evidence connects with the claim because the drought came in around 1977, as the rainfall decreased the plant population also decreased. So the birds that depended on soft plants all died out. And then the long beak birds that depended on hard seeds could survive longer and reproduce.

This evidence connects with the claim because the birds ate two types of seeds from 1976 to 1978, they started with 19 per square meter for both of them together, and that was before the drought when there were a lot of shorter beak birds for plants, mainly the soft seeds. Now in 1978, there was only 6b per square meter, both added up. Now because of that, the shorter beak birds decreased in population because of a lack of soft plants. And the longer beaked birds increased in population because they had long beaks for the hard seeds and to eat insects and bugs
