During Lesson 3, particularly in Activity 2, I gained valuable insights into the various challenges and issues that many youths in Singapore are currently facing. Through the discussions and examples presented, I realized that some of these struggles are not just distant or abstract problems, I actually have friends who are going through similar difficulties in their personal lives. This made the lesson feel even more real and relevant to me, as I could personally relate to the issues being shared.

Beyond simply learning about these challenges, the activity helped me become more aware of my own surroundings and the situations that others may silently be dealing with. It opened my eyes to the importance of empathy and being supportive of those around me, especially when they may be going through tough times.

It also made me reflect on my own life and appreciate what I have. I began to understand how fortunate I am to be in a position where I don't have to struggle through the same hardships just to feel safe, stable, or accepted.

This lesson served as a powerful reminder to not take things for granted and to always remain grateful for the opportunities and support I have been given.

Lesson 4 (Bias,Stereotypes &discrimination)

In Lesson 4, I learned the importance of identifying and addressing bias, stereotypes, and discrimination in our everyday interactions. These harmful behaviours and assumptions often go unnoticed in casual conversations, social media, or even within our own thoughts. Recognizing them is the first step toward creating a more inclusive and understanding environment. For example, making assumptions about someone’s abilities based on their race, gender, or background is a form of bias that can be hurtful and unfair. Through the lesson activities, I became more aware of how even small comments or jokes can carry hidden stereotypes, and I learned ways to speak up and challenge such behaviour respectfully.

We also explored how to engage in meaningful conversations about sensitive or controversial local issues without causing conflict. It’s easy to let emotions take over when we disagree with someone, but the lesson taught me that being respectful and empathetic is key to having a productive dialogue. Instead of immediately arguing back, I now understand the importance of listening actively, trying to understand the other person’s point of view, and responding calmly. This approach doesn’t just help avoid misunderstandings; it also builds stronger connections and mutual respect.

What is one thing you learnt in
today’s lesson?

One thing I learnt during the lesson is about tribalism in Singapore. I found out that tribalism isn’t just about traditional tribes but also about how people group themselves based on race, religion, or social circles. Even though Singapore is a diverse society, subtle divisions still exist when people stick to their own groups. This lesson made me more aware of the importance of being open-minded and respectful to everyone to help build unity and reduce stereotypes.

What is one thing you are still
mulling over?

One thing I can mull over is how deeply unconscious bias influences the media messages we see every day, often without us realizing it. It’s interesting and a bit unsettling to think about how personal beliefs, societal norms, and marketing strategies all come together to create content that reinforces stereotypes and discrimination. Reflecting on this makes me question how much of what I accept as “normal” or “true” has actually been shaped by biased portrayals in the media. It also makes me consider the responsibility that both media creators and viewers have in challenging these biases and promoting fairer, more inclusive representations.

What is one thing you are
struggling to understand?

one thing i struggle to understand is how unconscious bias works in our daily decision-making without us even realizing it.

It’s confusing to me how deeply ingrained these biases can be, influencing the way people are portrayed in media and how we react to them, even when we want to be fair and open-minded

One important thing I learned in this lesson is how Singapore’s shared values like working together with different races, being brave and being open to new ideas, helped the country grow and succeed. Even though Singapore is small and doesn’t have many natural resources, the people and leaders used these values to face problems and build a strong nation. This shows me that when people work together and are willing to try new things, they can overcome hard challenges and create a better future for everyone.

One key thing I learned in this lesson is that what it means to be “Singaporean first” can vary from person to person. Some people believe that their Singaporean identity is the most important, while others think it’s natural to also hold on to their other identities, like their race or culture. I also found out that we can build a stronger sense of being Singaporean by taking part in activities like National Day celebrations, spending time in community spaces, and serving in National Service. These shared experiences help bring us closer together and make us proud of our country, even though we all have different backgrounds.

1. Recall one planet you interacted with during the gameplay.
We interacted with Hella, a planet that had trouble making minerals, which were very important in the game. Because minerals were hard to find, other planets really needed Hella’s help.

a. What challenges do you think the planet faced?
Hella had a hard time because it could not make a lot of minerals. But since everyone needed them, it had to deal with many trade requests while still thinking about its own needs.

b. How did your team approach your dialogue or negotiation with the planet?
Our team offered food and credits to Hella because we had extra. We also asked what they needed first, so we could make a fair trade and keep a good relationship.

2. How can these lessons encountered during the gameplay apply to real-world situations?
The game taught us how countries trade in real life. Just like the planets, countries have different things they are good at, and they need each other’s help. It also showed us that talking nicely, being fair, and working together are very important.

As we only meet once a week, we still were able to get along with our peers while understanding the topic " Underground cities " It seems like only our group were the only ones that did that which makes us feel special about the presentation.

From preparing the presentation, We learnt quite a lot about Singapore undercities infrastructures. It is interesting to know how Singapore is making use of underground to build a more sustainable cities and beyond that , they even have future plans to expand more facilities underground. Even though Singapore is a small dot , however government do try their best to expand as much as they can for their people.
