Our bilingual quick tips cover topics including playing with your baby, sharing books with your baby and talking to your baby in your own language.

This approach which involves noticing how your child is feeling and naming it for them, e.g. ‘you’re feeling angry’, ‘you’re feeling excited’. You can validate their feelings using simple language e.g. ‘you’re upset, that’s okay’, before meeting the need (e.g. giving them a hug), or problem solving for them, where this is possible (e.g. fixing a toy). The adult may need to take a moment to recognise and support how they are feeling before supporting their child in these moments (“putting on your own oxygen mask first”).
