The article also touched on the fact that a lot of white counter protesters  struggle to understand the black community and their struggles and only see the outrage as a result of one isolated incident when its reality the culmination of 400 years of systematic oppression.

In this study, Eberhardt discovered that, there are racial biases in policing; however, these bias can be managed with implicit bias training and having the officer question their own actions. 
After reading this article, I learned that police officer are more likely to think of shooting, apprehending, capturing, or arresting when seeing a black person's face instead of a white person's face. People are afraid to go against the norm and be the first to speak out because it can have a negative impact on their status.   I learned that this  same phenomenon can be used to combat by standing.  If leaders can define and live by strong values that encourage activism others will perceive that as the norm and follow in suit.

I have learned that, due to this, Stanford University’s Dr. Jennifer Eberhardt has been working with the police departments in creating a program called "implicit bias trainings". This program helps force police officers into making asking themselves if "this stop is intelligence-led, yes or no?", meaning that if they have prior knowledge of this person to this crime.
