Characters Less Likeable Sides/ Pressures Exerted on the Character

Jo from "Little Women" thinks she needs to take initiative in every situation and taking megs position as the oldest sister, but she only acts like this because her father who is fighting in the civil war left Jo to step into his shoes. She only acts the way she does because she is pressured to take care of her sisters and mother as her father did. Jo was always a tomboy and urging to be the man/ leader of the household, but then her father left her to be in charge and as a fifteen year old already employed and not in school another responsibility may not be good for her and sometimes she slips out of that fatherly position and acts like a child because she was so urged into adulthood. For example on page 47 when it is snowing out and Jo wants to go out for exercise and Meg tries to stop her, Jo says, "Never take advice!

I used to think that Amy had a prejudice against wealthy people , for example on page 4 when Amy says "I dont believe any of you suffer as I do, for you dont have to go to school with impertinent girls who plague you if you dont know your lessons, and laugh at your dresses, and label your father if he isnt rich." When first reading this page I thought Amy was stereotyping wealthier girls as they are often known to be snobby and obnoxious, but when I found out that the family used to be wealthy but got that taken away from her and her family I realized she was not stereotyping the girls she was only jealous they were living the life she once had and may not get back with her father now at war

Some traits matter more than others

Jo is very adventurous but is also very kindhearted. Some readers may say she is not very kind but I disagree. She says she is always caring for Beth and that they have a close relationship and also when she was at Laurie's house and saw her piano she immediately thought of Beth and how she would love it. Also, if she had not seen the shy young man in Laurie under the rich exterior she would not have talked to him and they would not be good friends, and Laurie would still be cooped up in his room like he was before. This shows that being kind is a stronger trait for Jo than being adventurous.

The opening scene

In the opening scene all the girls are complaining about not being able to afford presents but Beth says, "We got mother, father, and each other." in the book it states "she said contentedly " which means from the begin you can tell Beth isn't interested in new shiny toys, she is interested in memories family and friends. You can see this later on in the story when it is explained that Beth takes her sisters old dolls and fixes them up and cares for the dearly. This shows that Beth is not materialistic and is very much more into experiences and memories. This shows this because instead of playing with dolls then forgetting about them like her sisters, she takes the dolls mends them and cares for them.

in little women there is a pressure put on Jo that she has to act like role model but follow in her sisters footsteps also she is the second oldest and she so much presser on her solders for her sisters to look up to her but she is still a teen so she wants to have fun of the group and it shows that just because the oldest dose not mean you are the most mature
