I felt a bit anxious, unsure why we were all there. What was there to discuss? Hadn’t the Supreme Court said that black students should have the same educational opportunities as our white peers? Central was my neighborhood school, and I’d made my choice. I knew I was a good enough student to make it there, but I wondered whether the purpose of this meeting was to discuss our qualifications.

This was not going to be an ordinary school year. Blossom certainly had made that clear. … So I walked out of that meeting undeterred. If Blossom had intended to change my mind, it didn’t work. Even the worry in Mother’s eyes didn’t give me a second thought about my decision. I was as determined as ever to go to Central.

In Carlotta's time period colored people couldn't attend a all white people school. And in Mulan's time period women couldn't be soldier's only men could . For example in A Mighty Long Way it sates "Supreme Court said that black students should have the same educational opportunities as our white peers?" this shows how in Carlotta's time period they didn't have the same rights as white people. Another example in I'll make a man out of you it sates "Did they send me daughters
When I asked for sons?" This shows how the leader was calling them girls.

Edwin Ortega: Listening to the lyrics of the song, I could see a connection with the book we are currently reading. One Connection that stands out the most for me is that both of the main characters still have determination inside of them despite them knowing it will most definitely be a bumpy road to achieve.Another Reason i spy with my eyes is that everyone should be treated equally. The reason i am heading towards to this point is that Carlotta was treated differently since she had a different skin colors to the other students. The other ( don't know name) character was i would also say
