I especially liked the movie, "She's All That." As I watched it, I never thought anything of it, in terms of gender stereotypes. It was simply a film that markets introverted girls as "uncool" and nerdy, whereas the popular girls were portrayed as the most beautiful. This is how I thought it was supposed to be. Looking back at it in hindsight, I realize just  how stereotypical this movie is. While watching it with him, I noticed that this show is about a group of rescue dogs (a police dog, a construction dog, etc.) I couldn't help but notice that of the six dogs, however, only one is a girl. It made me think that this show is perpetuating the profession of a police officer being more suitable for females, rather than males. Additionally, the show portrays the town’s mayor as a woman, she comes off as incompetent, which essentially implies that a female cannot do an efficient job of running the town. This is an issue because these magazines suggest that beauty is mostly represented by females, compared to males. In addition, "beautiful" females are those that are celebrities such as Kim Kardashian. This is an issue as beauty is confined to those celebrity females. This presentation, however, helped me realize that the purpose of this game emphasizes Mario and Luigi (two brothers) having to "rescue" Princess Peach. Mario and Luigi are depicted as the heroes. Princess Peach is a beautiful little princess that requires having to be saved. This video game perpetuates gender stereotypes because the female (Princess Peach) comes off as incompetent and cannot save herself. These games do offer a primer in combat strategy and combat discourse. All the women that wrestle, or that are "managers" who do little else than walk the men to the ring, are usually scantily clad and objectified for entertainment. Bratz dolls came on the scene in 2001 and they were the top of my Christmas Wish List for several years. After much, "but MOMMMMMM every girl in my class has one" I finally received my first Bratz doll when I was 8. These dolls epitomize the hyperfeminized gender stereotype - ridiculous proportions, glammy, glitzy. And even more disturbing, they promote the message that it was cool, natural and expected for girls to have this underlying "bratty" mean streak. With the release of the "plush" version such dolls found their way into the lives of girls in the most intimate of ways, I know I slept with mine for a time.
