Over the course of the last several years, my brother, Nik, has been getting really into making music. Before I sat down with him and spoke to him about it, I had no idea what it took in order to make music. I had no idea how much time you have to invest to see some kind of results. I had no idea what he was even doing with his music.

He never really understood what it would take to actually get himself known as an artist. He never even knew what he wanted to do with his passion for Hip Hop. It wasn’t until recently that Nik started to understand all of the time and effort that was required to get off the ground: long nights in studios, hiring people to make album artwork, getting connections with people or networking. He is on his own for this. Neither him nor his partner and best friend know what they're doing. No one is here to hold their hands and guide them through here. This whole thing is a learning process. He is slowly learning all that he is going to need in order to make his first studio independent album.

Nik had already made a mixtape that he released on soundcloud. Yes, he is a soundcloud rapper. He is doing everything in his power to become more than that. To set himself apart, he is reaching out to many popular people so that he can get all of his work done well. The work that Nik creates, and how he presents himself both make a huge impact on his level of success. His definition of success doesn’t rely on money. He made that very clear with me. Success to Nik will be achieved when he is creating work that he loves, and is able to put it on all kinds of streaming platforms with a following.

It's quite the learning process for Nik. He doesn't quite know what he should do to set him apart from the many people trying to make it in the music industry; he doesn’t even know exactly what he should be doing to make himself known. But he is learning new things every single day. He is growing as a person and artist every single day. All of this knowledge and experience that he is acquiring enables him to have more tools for success. He didn’t go to school to learn about how to be an up and coming artist. There is no school for that. However, he has found himself as an aspiring artist trying to put everything he can into his own work so that he can make it.

It started as early as third or fourth grade. It started with rappers such as 50 cent, Akon, and Snoop Dogg. Then, he transitioned to Kanye West, and then it all progressed from there. He started writing lyrics early into high school and messing around with music: producing, writing, recording.
