Sganga is a former attorney with the Placer County Public Defender's Office who, in addition to specializing in civil litigation and bankruptcy law, has more than 15 years of experience as a forensic science consultant in state and federal courts. Michael W. Sganga's proficiency in forensic science is owed in part to his extensive background in microbiology. Prior to obtaining a juris doctor from the New College of California School of Law in 2003, Michael W. Sganga served seven years as a research fellow of the National Institutes of Health, where he directed a molecular biology research team studying the pharmacogenetics of drug addiction and alcoholism in the brain. Combined, he has 20 years of experience in microbiology and neurobiology laboratories with expertise in molecular cloning, DNA and RNA sequencing, and bioinformatics. Mr. Sganga earned a PhD in biology at Indiana University, where he wrote his thesis on the molecular genetics of photosynthesis and held membership with the American Society for Microbiology.
