The best way I can share this idea is through an example.
You need surgery.
Serious surgery that needs to be handle with the utmost care, if not, you die.
Here comes your surgeon.
Catch? He was the janitor of the hospital a few hours ago? But now he here is, preparing to cut you open.
Now take this into consideration for a president.
Someone fresh from being a musician for example, that comes a decides to be president. They win the popular vote, and have somehow become president?
Now that worries me. 
The president should be someone that has had a similar position, like Secretary of State. All for the same reason you do not want a janitor to be your surgeon. You want someone who knows how the House runs and knows how to work in. Someone that can take control and is connected to other members of their party and of others. A politician that knows foreign policy and affairs like the back other hand because they understand how crucial it is to safeguard them.

To be professional.
Have managing skills for foreign affairs.
To be the face of the country.
This is what it means to have diplomacy and this is what can cause a war if you lack it.
If the next president lacks diplomacy, than a war can occur between the U.S and Russia.
If the nuclear issue is not handled with finesse, than there goes a war with North Korea and an extension in the Middle East. If the president can not calmly communicate with their nation, than they are at war with their own people. 
So many negatives can take place if the president does not know who to speak with other countries of their country.
They can not be rude or ignore other countries because of a difference in ideology. They need to communicate to settle matters peacefully. To be able to prevent wars with word would assist in establishing as peaceful world- but if they lack diplomacy than where would we be as a country.
The issues that need to be dealt with are like fragile eggs, to much pressure and it is all crushed away.
Diplomacy is respect.
It is a much needed trait for anyone that is president.

Why shouldn't they be educated? They should need a minimum of a Master's degree to even think about going for presidency. It would prove that they were able to make the commitment to continue going through school and complete a Master's. 
They should not only be 'book smart' they need to be 'American smart'.
By that I mean that they should be able to understand the American people, to understand the struggles that they go through, and to know what they want to see changed to improve their lives.
For example, a president can read about struggling communities- even just listen to an assistant go on about it, but would they actually be informed to the extent of the struggles?
A president should be read to learn hands on- to go out of the classroom and into the field as to be able to really be able to see what the people go through. 
To see living conditions.
To see what below the poverty line and minimum wage looks like.
That is what makes a president educated on their people.

We they know how to handle a war?
Do they know when war is not the answer?
A president needs to know what the military is for how to wield its power.
If they were to be ill experienced than they could call for war when they could have found a diplomatic solution. 
They could have thousands of Americans and innocents killed because they made the wrong decisions.
