Power can be destructive and cause harm, but the perspective of those who use it determines if it will be used to cause harm or to help.
- Lines: In Act 3, when Trinculo and Stephano are conspiring with Caliban, Ariel uses music to distract the trio from their plans to murder Prospero. Ariel "plays the tune on a tabor and pipe." (Shakespeare 3.2.137). This causes Trinculo and Stephano to follow the sound, shown when they say: "The sound is going away. Let’s follow it, and/ after do our work." (Shakespeare 3.2.162-163). [[Their 'work' meaning killing Prospero.]]

Perspective

Justice for one person is different for another based on their perspective, even if their view is cruel and harmful to others. Our perspectives are largely influenced by internal bias and experiences, so what we think is right for us could be detrimental to another.

“This island’s mine by Sycorax, my mother, / Which thou tak’st from me” (Shakespeare 1.2.395-396). Caliban, in The Tempest, is an indentured servant to Prospero. His perspective leads him to believe that because his mother was Sycorax, the former magical ruler of the island, he deserves to be free and do what he wishes.

Knowledge

Everyone is capable of gaining useful knowledge they can use, even though it is not always appreciated or acknowledged.

Power

Everyone has power they can wield, however, this power can be taken away or restrained.
