2-1. My experience: The appearance of St. John’s church

The St. John’s church is nearly 15 meters high, and I can see it from Main Street. The appearance combines simple and classic style. It has two towers and three doors, and we get in from the main door.

4-1. What was something I learnt culturally by attending this journey: The unique color scheme and building materials of American church style.

I’ve been to the St. Peter’s Basilica Church which is located in Vatican. Comparing two churches, they are very different in style. The ceiling of the St. Peter’s is higher and more classical than the St. John’s. Moreover, the St. Peter’s is a little more religious, and the main colors of this architecture is gold and black, which reflects the solemnity of church. There are some American vintage elements used in the St. John’s church, but I could feel this is a young church built in 1800’s. The St. John’s uses light color scheme to show its modern fashion.

2-3.The grand pipe organ

I loved the sound of music which came from the pipe organ. Moreover, the large scale of pipe organ made St.John’s church as a more serious place. Unfortunately, there was no performance when we came there.

3-2. The passion of the Christ and stained glass

I read the introduction before I got there, and it said the stained glass is one of characteristics of the St. John’s church.

3-1.My favorite part of the event: Sculptures on both sides of church’s walls

The western sculptures always attract me. So when I entered St.John’s church, I noticed sculptures on the wall immediately. I observed that these sculptures describe Bible stories, and they are all amazing representational artworks. The foreigners who don’t know English can understand easily by these sculptures. I also love exquisite patterns on wooden shelves.

I went to St. John’s church with HeHe and Yusha on Jan 26. This is the oldest and most famous church in Savannah. I’ve seen a lot of pictures of this building on instagram. When we got there, this is the first selfie we took.
