         <description><![CDATA[<div>Americans and Filipinos that were captured by the Japanese in the Philippines were all forced to march from the southern end of the Bataan Peninsula to a prison camp. There were about 70,000 prisoners of the war.&nbsp;<br><br>Army Major General Edward P. King surrendered to Japanese General Masaharu Homma on the morning of April 9th. They then had to march to Capas, Tarlac where they would leave in vehicles.<br><br>This event was important because it was the first land battle for the Americans in World War 2. This was also one of the most devastating defeats in American history.<br><br><br></div>]]></description>

The Japanese attacked the American fleet at midway and were then met by a stronger Allied fleet.<br><br>The Japanese were defeated and this was the end of the Japanese navel power in the Pacific.<br><br>This event was important because this battle gave the first opportunity for the United States Navy to challenge the Japanese Navy with equivalent forces.</div>]]></description>

It lasted from June 4th to the 7th of 1942<br><br>The United States Navy got the victory in the battle and with this defense they destroyed Japan’s hopes of neutralizing the United States as a navel power<br><br>This was important because it brought the Pacific Naval forces of the United States and Japan. This also marked a turning point for the 2 countries.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>A campaign from August 1942 to February 1943. The Japanese went to Guadalcanal with 61 of their ships looking to take over. After the battle, the Japanese fled from Guadalcanal and left it in allied possession.&nbsp;<br><br>This gave the United States the victory again. This American Victory paved the way for other wins in the Solomon Islands. <br><br>This battle was important because it ended all Japanese expansion plans and put the allies in complete supremacy.<br><br><br></div>]]></description>

Throughout the war, 16,043 men passed away.<br><br>The Japanese Navy suffered a crushing defeat as this crippled the combined fleet permitted the United States invasion of the Philippines.<br><br>This battle was important because it was more than 100,000 square miles of sea that they battled in. Hundreds of ships fought during this battle and some of the largest sunk.</div>]]></description>

Axis Powers were intended to draw away from the Eastern Front.<br><br>Over 250,000 Afrika Korps, Italian, and German soldiers were taken in as prisoners of the war.<br><br>The allied victory immediately led to the Italian campaign which was the downfall of the fascist government in Italy.</div>]]></description>

The battle began in September of 1939 and ended 6 years later in May of 1945.<br><br>The Allies had taken the victory since the German’s blockade failed. This also helped Britain keep using more armed weapons.<br><br>This war was important because keeping Britain armed was keeping the Germans away from taking over all of Western Europe.</div>]]></description>

This was for the&nbsp; control of the city of Stalingrad.<br><br>This was the first time Hitler admitted military defeat. The Red Army stopped the Germans from advancing into Stalingrad. Germany was on the defensive after this.<br><br>This war was important because it was one of the most longest and bloodiest wars in modern warfare.</div>]]></description>

The operation was named Overlord and was meant to get nazi population out of North-west Europe.<br><br></div><div>More than 11% of allied forces were lost during the battle. Over 72,911 people were either killed or missing from this event.<br><br>This war was important because this prevented Hitler from sending troops from France to build up against the Soviet Union.</div>]]></description>
