The photo could be used to learn family names (e.g. Mother, father, etc), the people's physical appearance (eyes, nose, etc, colour of hair), about whether the people are rich or poor, and about their emotions. I would have my students `pick one person in the picture and make up a story such as what they do as a living, where they are headed, thoughts or whatever comes to mind. It's not only abou the problem the world had with Ebola, it's also about third world issues in general. I' d tell my students to imagine where the picture was taken, who took it and why they thing this person took this photo. After those simple and easy questions to simply speculate about the photograph, I'd go further and I'd ask them how the picture makes them feel. Exploring emotions in a different language can be pretty amazing and sometimes people find it easier to express certain emotions when they are using a different language. Recently, I taught the second conditional using a picture of an island. I told them that the island were for sale and we could afford to buy it.
