Daniel Hale Williams performed the first open-heart surgery on a human in 1893. He also founded Provident Hospital and Training School for Nurses in Chicago, IL in 1891. His father was a barber who was very religious. His father died of tuberculosis when Daniel was nine years old. I was interested in researching him because I've always wanted to know how it feels to perform surgery on somebody else. It impressed me that he performed the first open heart surgery ever.
