When looking at the impact of statistical application in every day lives. One impact implication of the application is shown in polls. The information that is gathered by polls can influence policy making and help to determine what are the priorities that the government needs to focus on for spending. Since the government has a critical impact on our day to day lives, the information gathered by these polls must be an accurate representation.

When looking at not only our day to day lives but as well as our work life, it can be seen that there are statistics all around us. It is shown in our day to day lives by simply going to the grocery store and looking at the nutritional facts of food. When looking at a job that focuses on releasing new toys. The job must look at the statistics that are behind each idea to see how it did, this will allow them to make a choice and identify what would be the best choice.

When looking at the human life expectancy over the years. It is shocking to see that at one point in time it would be common for the human life to end in someones mid 30's, unlike nowadays where life expectancy is in the upper 70's which is more than doubled. This is done not only because of scientific advancements, but as well as because of statistical literacy which is where one can understand and reason with statistics and data.

Difference between Statistics and Mathematics

Mathematics is a discipline that has multiple branches of itself. These branches will go down to geometry, algebra, calculus and so on. When looking at statistic, it is from a methodological discipline. While math exist for itself and to build on itself, statistic does not. Statistic is there to offer the idea of statistical thinking towards other fields so they themselves can grow and change.

Variability

There are four important sources of variability in data, the four are measurements, sampling, natural, and induced. Measurement, as it gets from its name, is a variability that is based on repeated measurements on the same individual vary. Sampling variability is shown when recording the results from different sample size of people. Each sample will have its own result and will vary with one another. Natural variability as it's name states is the varying results that one would get by recording data based on nature. Induced variability revolves around the observational difference between test. An example would be planting two of the same seeds in completely different areas and giving one what it needs and the other not to see what would happen.

The Role of Context

It is important to remember the difference between math and statistic. In math, while the context matter, it does not play as big of a role as it does in statistics. When it comes to statistics, context matters because one must know everything about the data before and after studying it. While both statistic and math look for patterns, the difference is that statistic looks for the context about the pattern.

Probability

While probability has an important role in math, it is actually a tool for statistics. While it is seen in both math and statistic, there is a difference between it when shown in both. When it comes to math, we have an example like
- Assume a coin is “fair.”
Question: If we toss the coin five times, how many heads will we get?
This is a math probability because it seeks a solution. When looking at a statistical probability.
- You pick up a coin.
Question: Is this a fair coin?
It is not about the solution of the coin, it is regarding about being unfamiliar with the coin. One does not know if it is a trick coin or a real coin that is being used.
