I think that in 2017 we need to be showing history from multiple perspectives. I don't feel that celebrating the landing or rather "invasion" should occur in schools as it is not culturally sensitive to indigenous people. If a school must feel the need to commemorate with a dress up day then they should balance this with a dress up of the realities to the people who inhabited the land and were subjected to genocide. Therefore I think going as an enslaved aboriginal is very appropriate as this would provide additional perspective. As a former high school history I feel that it is the most important subject in school. If we don't learn our mistakes from the past then what future do we have. No doubt the focus on STEM will help to ensure we continue to make the mistakes of the past.
