This document stated that the new state of Missouri would be a slave state but the new states above it's southern border would then become free states.          <description><![CDATA[<div>  In 1850, the US congress passed the Fugitive slave Act, which allowed slave owners to bring back any runaway slaves that had gone to a different state or territory.  They did this because they considered slaves leaving their masters was a crime so they did as Article 4 section 2 of the US constitution.</div>]]></description>

         <title>The Dred Scott Decision</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>  In 1857, Dred Scott had lived in the free states for about five years but then, when his old master died, his old masters wife urged him to sue for his rights and for his freedom.  The supreme court ended up saying that he was still a slave and couldn't sue for freedom.  This was because they thought that since they were black, they had no rights.</div>]]></description>
