Origin of Santa Clause

The origin of Santa Claus comes from a mix of Old Germanic traditions and the new Christian faith that was adopted at the time. St. Nicholas of Myra an extremely generous bishop famous for his giving of gifts was mixed with the old traditions of the previous beliefs of the Christianized peoples. For example the Dutch's Sinterklass who is described to be a serious old man with a flowing white beard that wears a red cloak and records children behavior in a book to decide who gets what. This mixture of St Nicholas and figures such as Sinterklass led to the invention of Santa Claus.
