Nikola Tesla only had 4 cents when he finally reached America. His first employer was Thomas Edison who Tesla didn't get along with. Thomas once said he would pay Tesla 50,000 dollars to improve a design and then laughed at him for believing it. His next employer was George Westinghouse who Tesla worked under for a short time before going independent. During this time Tesla worked on many projects such as a power center at Niagara Falls. Although many of his inventions were a success he always struggled with money. In fact financial issues stopped his biggest project. While he was a great inventor he wasn't very successful.

Nikola Tesla has an important legacy because of his hopes for the future. First he won the Edison Medal for his work. The Edison Medal is a Nobel Prize for people who better humanity through technology. With his alternating current systems he helped make many technologies possible. He also made many predictions for the future detailed in a news article. It says, " Anyone can afford a pocket sending set and talk to his friends around the world." This quote shows that Nikola Tesla knew that technology soon would be advanced enough for cellular phones to exist and be relatively affordable. Nikola Tesla had an astounding mind which help him invent things to make his legacy long lasting.
