This document also helps prevent abuse and mistreatment as individuals with a history of violence, abuse or neglect aren’t going to be placed in positions of trust and responsibility over children. The TCPS course also teaches how to evaluate the potential benefits and risks when involving children in a study. Also, I learned the importance of understanding the unique perspectives, needs and experiences that must be considered when doing research. The course emphasized honesty, integrity and transparency when dealing with research participants, funders and the broader academic community. This is a system created to ensure the safe handling, use, storage and disposal of hazardous materials in the workplace. This protects the health and safety of myself and others I work with by giving me information and training on the hazards associated with materials I could handle and the necessary precautions to mitigate risks. I learned the standardized labels and safety data sheets associated with different materials, which taught me to understand the risk associated with the substances being handled and how to handle them safely. I also feel more prepared for emergencies with this training as I am better prepared to respond to a chemical spill or other hazardous material incident. I know how to handle emergencies, use personal protective equipment and what steps need to be taken to contain and mitigate potential hazards. Having this makes me feel confident in decreasing workplace injuries, incidents and illnesses related to hazardous materials exposure and handling. I understand the purpose of WHMIS and the roles of responsibilities I have and those I work with and under. I learned what the WHIMIs labels are and understand the significance and precautions involved with them. I led children in activities that help them develop intellectually, physically and emotionally while also ensuring their safety and wellbeing.
