When a teacher practices culturally responsive practices within the classroom, it helps our students relate to the material being learned, which allows them to develop a deeper understanding of the content. And even make personal connections to the material as well. The ISTE standards, similar to the CCSS, are a set of standards that create a sort of guideline for teachers to follow and pace their students, keeping students of the same age/grade levels exposed to the same content/ mastery level of skills related to technology across the state/ country. Similar to the CCSS, the standards are very basic, and although they set what students are required to know, they are often not relatable to our students. By practicing culturally responsive strategies when relating to the ISTE standards, it can help our students develop deeper understandings of what is being asked of them/ create a personal connection to what is being learned or asked. It also helps them feel acknowledged and appreciated when they see references to their cultures, ethnicity, languages, etc.

Critical digital literacy is a set of skills and viewpoints that allow a person to use and understand digital media tools 

Critical digital literacy skills fit into ALL curriculum areas

Related to literacy skills in which the reader uses skills like listening, speaking, reading, writing, and critical thinking. 

The goal of critical digital literacy is to develop active and engaged thinkers in the digital environment

Critical digital literacy skills will be used outside of the classroom setting and become more necessary as the technological age is advancing 

More than technological understanding and computer skills as it also acts as a reflection using different perspectives including one's own to formulate a personal view 

Using: Learners need to have the basic skills to navigate and use technological tools on digital platforms

Decoding skills: Learners need to be able to navigate the digital environment and have an understanding of different texts/platforms to critically interpret what is being presented 

Analyzing: Learners need to be able to use different texts/platforms to make meaning and informed judgment from others views combined with their own 

Meaning Making: Learners need to be able to construct meaning and an understanding of what digital literacy is presenting 

Persona: Learners need to identify their own individual opinion and viewpoint of a text/platform using what they have read and used to help inform them of the topic or text
