  • Music helps reading comprehension by helping students motivation and their understanding of language. This can be shown in the way that we learn the ABC's through a song, or how we read nursery rhymes with a rhythm. Both of these support students understanding of language and reading.
  • Music also supports learning to read by presenting students with something that is similar. If students have already learned to read music, which is also read from left to right and top to bottom, they may be better prepared to learn to reading. Students are also more aware of how when you read a note it leads to a certain sound being made, this leads to a better phonemic awareness, as well. 
  • Music education leads to a greater cognitive flexibility, and leads to a mind that is more prepared for cognitive challenges. This explores the importance of the multiple intelligences and their use in the classroom.
  • Shinichi Suzuki explored how we can learn music is a similar way to language. His method involves introducing children to music early and having them study it in a similar way to how they learn to speak.
  • The importance of testing and exceeding in the core subjects have largely led to the elimination of music education. Music education can be advocated for if it is seen as valuable to the school. One school, which advocates for music education, states that  it has to be valued across the board, it must be valued by the administration, teachers, students, parents, and the community, in order to remain. This school also advocates for the fact that music education supports learning in other subjects. Other things that need to be considered are money responsibilities, sources of revenue, and collaboration with other schools.
