إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُحِبُّ ٱلَّذِينَ يُقَـٰتِلُونَ فِى سَبِيلِهِۦ صَفًّۭا كَأَنَّهُم بُنْيَـٰنٌۭ مَّرْصُوصٌۭ

Indeed, Allah loves those who fight in His cause in a row as though they are a [single] structure joined firmly.

As we are all Muslims who unite ourselves together for the worship of Allah, the main thing that unites us is our prayers. We are all equal in the eyes of Allah, despite our worldly circumstances, since we come to pray together because of the belief in our hearts. The same concept applies to this verse, since we come together to fight in the cause of Islam (be it because of our pure belief or because of going with society/our family's flow). The phrase that of "a [single] structure" can apply itself to how Allah arranges the prayer blocks in our life, so we can renew our iman and energy after every prayer.

The article is written about a woman who was murdered by her husband after she had revealed her husband's extramarital affair on social media in Cheras a day before Eid Al-Fitr. The examination conducted on the woman showed bruises on her limbs, and the post mortem examination revealed the cause of death was injury in the abdominal area using a blunt object. The underlying motive of the crime is her husband was angry with the victim for publicising his affair. 

In my opinion, the husband is completely at fault. The woman should have not released it on social media, true, however the husband clearly committed a wrongful act. The right to privacy regarding sensitive issues remains intact, but the force in which he reacted to her publicising it shows abusive tendencies at play. This can give cause for more sympathy to the woman since she had been cheated on, and instead of her husband getting punished, she was fired in the crossroads instead.

A hadith that relates to this is:

“A man from Bani Aslam came to Allah's Apostle while he was in the mosque and called (the Prophet ) saying, "O Allah's Apostle! I have committed illegal sexual intercourse." On that the Prophet turned his face from him to the other side, whereupon the man moved to the side towards which the Prophet had turned his face, and said, "O Allah's Apostle! I have committed illegal sexual intercourse." The Prophet turned his face (from him) to the other side whereupon the man moved to the side towards which the Prophet had turned his face, and repeated his statement. The Prophet turned his face (from him) to the other side again. The man moved again (and repeated his statement) for the fourth time. So when the man had given witness four times against himself, the Prophet called him and said, "Are you insane?" He replied, "No." The Prophet then said (to his companions), "Go and stone him to death." The man was a married one. Jabir bin 'Abdullah Al-Ansari said: I was one of those who stoned him. We stoned him at the Musalla ('Id praying place) in Medina. When the stones hit him with their sharp edges, he fled, but we caught him at Al-Harra and stoned him till he died”. We, as mankind, were put into this Earth to be a vicegerent/Khalifa to serve Allah. In Verse 30, the Malaikat knew that humankind had mischievous characteristics about them, and asked Allah "They asked ˹Allah˺, “Will You place in it someone who will spread corruption there and shed blood while we glorify Your praises and proclaim Your holiness?”

إنّي = surely, verily

ملائكة = ملك = messenger

Amar Makuf = call for good deeds

Nahi Munkar = abstaining or preventing from doing bad deeds

            - hands (power one has inside themselves)
            - tongue (lisan - to speak against the Nahi Munkar)
            - heart (dua - pray - when we do not have courage)

Verse 31- 37 details about the history of Prophet Adam (AS).

In Verse 32, the Malaikat said "They replied, “Glory be to You! We have no knowledge except what You have taught us. You are truly the All-Knowing, All-Wise.” Each Malaikat are limited to what Allah has prescribed upon them.

In Verse 34, it says "And ˹remember˺ when We said to the angels, “Prostrate before Adam,”¹ so they all did—but not Iblîs,² who refused and acted arrogantly,³ becoming unfaithful." The underlying reason why Iblis refused to prostrate to Prophet Adam (AS) despite being told by Allah (SWT) links back to his arrogance.

Prophet Adam (AS) was created from clay, whereas Iblis was created from fire. Iblis prided himself from being made of a "higher level" material and refused to bow down, which directly contradicts where all beings are under Allah SWT, and so it does no good to compare ones circumstances to another when our main goal is to obey and worship Allah SWT.

In Verse 35, it says "We cautioned, “O Adam! Live with your wife in Paradise and eat as freely as you please, but do not approach this tree, or else you will be wrongdoers.” The fruit growing in this tree is the khuldi fruit, and they were forbidden from eating it and coming near the tree. The warning "takrabuzina", means to not do or come close to commiting zina.

In Verse 37, it says "Then Adam was inspired with words ˹of prayer˺ by his Lord,¹ so He accepted his repentance. Surely He is the Accepter of Repentance, Most Merciful." This showcases that whatever sins we may have committed in the past, there is always a chance to sincerely repent to Allah SWT. When Adam was sent down to Earth with Hawa, he was sent as the first Khalifa.

In Verse 38, it says "We said, “Descend all of you! Then when guidance comes to you from Me, whoever follows it, there will be no fear for them, nor will they grieve." This shows that the best path to take to avoid grievous behaviour or heartbreak is that to Allah SWT, and this serves as a reminder that other straying paths will not grant any rewards in the Hereafter.

In Verse 1, it says "O humanity! Fear your Lord, for the ˹violent˺ quaking at the Hour is surely a dreadful thing.". This is an obvious warning for humankind to follow the straight path if they want to avoid punishment in the Hereafter. Its aim is to instill fear to the Zalzalah.

In Verse 2, it says "The Day you see it, every nursing mother will abandon what she is nursing, and every pregnant woman will deliver her burden ˹prematurely˺." It is a metaphor to show the urgency and grave importance of the Day, where even loved ones would part to save themselves first.

In Verse 3, it says "˹Still˺ there are some who dispute about Allah without knowledge, and follow every rebellious devil." These disbelievers question the existence of Allah SWT without knowledge. They insult Allah SWT by questioning without a pure intention to grasp a better understanding of Islam, but rather an arrogant and prideful disbelief.

In Verse 5, it says "We did create you¹ from dust, then from a sperm-drop,² then ˹developed you into˺ a clinging clot ˹of blood˺,³ then a lump of flesh⁴—fully formed or unformed⁵—in order to demonstrate ˹Our power˺ to you. " This clearly gives us evidence that even before the existence of machines that can detect the existence of an embryo, Allah SWT had already revealed this knowledge decades before in the Holy Quran. Moreover, we have no control over when we live or die, it is all up to Allah SWT.

We start from when we are babies and know nothing of the world, constantly needing help with daily functions. When we are at the middle of our lives, we are at out peaks and this is where we offer help to others instead. Lastly, when we reach old age it is most similar to when we are infants, since in old age we also require help from others.

In Verse 6, the word هو الْحقّ means the truth, where Allah knows about the truth, about resurrection. The phrase Kholidina fii Abada means that all creatures in this world will have its end.

In Verse 7, it says "And certainly the Hour is coming, there is no doubt about it. And Allah will surely resurrect those in the graves." This is the cycle of our lives. Verse 16 : "And mention in the Book ˹O Prophet, the story of˺ Mary when she withdrew from her family to a place in the east,".

This proves that Maryam had secluded herself to a place towards the east to give birth to Prophet Isa AS, furthermore proving that Prophet Isa AS has no father.

Verse 17-21 : Speaks of when the angel, Gabriel,  came to Maryam to inform her that she has been blessed with a pure son. The son will become a sign for humanity and a mercy from Allah SWT.

Verse 20: "She wondered, “How can I have a son when no man has ever touched me, nor am I unchaste?”

This is further proof that Maryam was a God-fearing woman and had no such relationships with men prior to being told of her future situation.

Verse 22: "So she conceived him and withdrew with him to a remote place."

Maryam conceived Prophet Isa when she had withdrew from her well-to-do family towards a place to the east. She had 2 reasons for doing so, both of them to avoid fitnah. Firstly, she was scared of the consequences her pregnancy might have if she had it in public. This would perhaps encourage pre-marital sexual relationships between Muslims, and ultimately ruin the image of Islam to newcomers. She was also trying to avoid fitnah to herself.

Verse 23: "Then the pains of labour drove her to the trunk of a palm tree. She cried, “Alas! I wish I had died before this, and was a thing long forgotten!”

She was in immense pain and alone during the birth of her son, and was clueless. She had no help and was struggling through the  situation by herself. This is to show the women in any era who have no physical/moral/emotional support during the birth, that they have the strength to push through.

Verse 24: "So a voice¹ reassured her from below her, “Do not grieve! Your Lord has provided a stream at your feet."

There is a difference between sadness and grief. While sadness is a normal human emotion that Muslims are allowed to feel, grief is something we should not overdramatize or publicize. We are allowed to feel it, but we must recognize that death comes to every soul Allah SWT puts onto this Earth. We must attempt to show kindness to every person we encounter, so that we or them won't have any regrets when we pass on.

Verse 25: "And shake the trunk of this palm tree towards you, it will drop fresh, ripe dates upon you."

This shows that after Maryam had struggled wholeheartedly and still made effort to shake the large, strong tree, Allah recognized her efforts and rewarded her with sustenance. This is the sunnatullah that we should make effort for Allah, and Inshallah He will recognize it and reward you.

[Hadith] Anas ibn Malik reported: A man said, “O Messenger of Allah, should I tie my camel and trust in Allah, or should I leave her untied and trust in Allah?” The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Tie her and trust in Allah.”

We discussed on the above aspects to gain a fruitful understanding of what niyyah is and how it relates to Islam and purifies our souls. With this task I gained a more deeper understanding of niyyah, and it helps that it was done in a fun manner.

It was immensely fun and interactive in the class, be it online or offline. Although the topics given were somewhat out of the norm, we still managed to tie it back to the importance of Islam and relying on Allah (SWT).

For our first class we discussed about 3 topics, 1) Abang Viva helping flood victims, 2) the National Day, and 3) MoE should seek solutions to issues raised by teachers. It was fun to see everybody's different takes on the current issues.

For the second, we discussed various ayats from different surahs. The meanings of the ayats as well as how it can be related to our lives were discussed. After that class, we delved into other topics such as khusyu' in solat.

We related the meanings of the songs we chose back to Allah (SWT) after discussing why we picked them. We also chatted about quotes we chose from books, movies, or TV shows. Lastly, we discussed a heartfelt short film about an orphan boy.

The classes were very entertaining and informative, alhamdullilah.

When working on the group poster, I was faced with a bunch of people I didn't know for the rest of the semester. Luckily, they were all very cooperative people and very talented as well. I have to acknowledge their creative decorating skills in the poster. The information we discussed upon, the importance of niyyah, is an important topic for Muslims. If we don't have niyyah, our hearts aren't truly into the act we are performing for Allah (SWT). We must try everyday to put our whole heart when talking to Him, praying to Him, and etc. 

In conclusion, thank you for making this a class that I am not so stressed about while discussing with the members. It was truly a worthwhile experience.
