• Hiroshima and Nagasaki, two Japanese towns, were hit by nuclear bombs by the Americans on August 6 and 9 (1945), thus prompting the Japanese to end all of the ongoing wars in Asia.
• Afterwards, the British returned to Singapore to rule again. They did not, however, realise at first that Singapore had grown and changed as a nation and as a country.
• The British Military Administration was established to kickstart the British rule once more. Singaporeans were then hopeful for the possibility that everything could go back to normal and stabilise.
• However, they were faced with a multitude of issues. The lack of food, education, housing and trade were just some of the problems they had faced.
• Even though the BMA did try to solve the problems at hand, they were still unsuccessful in some aspects due to lack of funds. Because of this, the low amount of food and housing issue continued. Sometimes, some officials would actually take part in black market activities, giving them the name the "Black Market Administration" by unhappy citizens.
