Inspired by the collage work of Andrei Cojocaru I took his technique and applied it in my own experiments cutting and glueing fragments of paper from different sources whilst keeping to a limited colour palette to enhance the piece and ensure that the piece did not become too busy where it would take away from the subject. The focal point of this piece is a cut out of James bond from a pop culture magazine. This is one of my favourite experiments in a series of similar collage experiments. In which I altered the subjects, colour palette, painting over the eyes ext.

Taking my floristry knowledge I combined it with photography in this experiment inspired by the work of Marcelo Montreal and the idea of growth and the process of germination. I adore how this experiment turned out by following the hair line and the face for the cut I was able to create a really cool contrast allowing the flowers to flow through the piece drawing the eye across. Furthermore thanks to the position of the cut, the face is not obscured or disfigured by the cut ensuring a clean polished effect. Compared to my previous studies in this style I took a far more light and airy approach with my wild flower selection using smaller flowers and foliage to break up areas creating more contrast. As the next stage of development I took this photo and added a collage background and painted over the visible eye.

Painting unit final piece
Through the project I researched a range of artists and styles from cave paintings, the work of Leonardo da Vinci, van Gogh all the way to contemporary art practicioners such as Rone and abstract artists such a Rob forlani. From my research I found that I most enjoyed working in a highly abstract style. Using the method of paint pouring. I found this technique really therapeutic and am so pleased with how it turned out the limited colour palette allows all of the colours and paint movement to clearly show through. One thing that I love about it is the fact that the details and design is constantly evolving until it has dried fully, ensuring that every rendition is unique and distinctive.

Inspired by the work of Andy Goldsworthy and his use of natural resources in his installations which change and evolve over time with the environment. I collected leaves locally and arranged them by similar colours to create a sense of depth, layer and composition. To improve on this I would collect more leaves for the outer layer as there is quite a lot of empty space that shows through, whilst Goldsworthy's pieces are much more compact.

This is one of sixty photos that were taken at a variety of angles.

This is one of my favourite final pieces from this year. Combining both the historical events of the belfast riots and the poem belfast confetti to portray the chaos and confusion felt by those caught in the middle, and the ptsd that they have to make peace with in their mind. This is shown through the through the piece lily that my model is holding. Additionally the background collage includes snippets of articles about the events that the poem is based on alongside photos of the event within cutout areas of the subject. This final product is everything and more then I had hoped marrying literature with the events they are based on in a single art piece.

This Van Gogh starry night pastiche took me around fifteen hours to complete in acrylic paint. Whilst I feel that I was able to colour match and reproduce the shapes accurately. Using far thicker, closer lines to create tone. Due to being in acrylic and not oil like the original my piece has visual textures rather than physical like the ones Van Gogh achieves. Through the painting process I found that I started with his style of big bold lines and clumps of paint but as I went on the style and technique of application differed with far more controlled thin lines, causing the viewers eyes to flow along with the movement of the brush strokes.

From this the area that I am most proud of is on the break water in which I used three layers to build up the textures and tones of where it had become covered in moss, where the water had smoothed it clear and the area that seemed untouched, keeping their original colour.

For this piece I was deeply inspired by the artists Andrei Cojocaru and Dario de Siena who I had the honour to work with and interview. Combining collage with an abstract fluid art painting running through the centre of the piece around the monotone portrait. I love this design. The background creates a sense of harmony with the piece due to the use of complementary colours, helping to both blend the two elements together whilst the contrasting colours make the abstract work on the portrait more vibrant and pop. With the painting being done in acrylic paint that was pulled using a palette knife.

This experiment is inspired by a combination of Hovey Eyres and Erin Case who take images of landscapes and scenery, framing them within the limitations of the face through the use of collage and drawing. For this experiment I took I took my own photography of landscapes and portraits and used them in a similar way removing the face using a craft knife; using leading lines such as the horizon or objects to draw the eye into the piece. As part of my further development I worked by cutting smaller areas of the face away rather than the entire face. Taking away sections, following natural facial lines such as the checks and forehead. I have developed this technique so that the subject remains recognisable.
