What does the Captain report about the battle to Duncan? <br><br></div><div><br>The Captain tells Duncan that Macbeth fought with great bravery and won. <br><br></div><div><br>3. What title is given to Macbeth for bravery in the battle? <br><br></div><div><br>Macbeth is given the title “Thane of Cawdor.”<br>4. What happened to the original Thane of Cawdor and why did he lose his title? <br><br></div><div><br>The original Thane of Cawdor betrayed Scotland and was executed. <br><br></div><div><br>5. How do the witches greet Macbeth after the battle? <br><br></div><div><br>The witches greet Macbeth by calling him “Thane of Glamis,” “Thane of Cawdor,” and as the future king. <br><br></div><div><br>6. What do the witches mean when they say, “Lesser than Macbeth, and greater. Not so happy, yet much happier. What happens that causes Macbeth to recalculate his ease of becoming king? <br><br></div><div><br>Macbeth’s ease of becoming king is recalculated when Malcolm becomes the Prince of Cumberland, therefore named heir of the throne. <br><br></div><div><br>9. What is the significance of Lady Macbeth's "unsex me" scene? <br><br></div><div><br>Lady Macbeth wishes that she was a man so that she would have more power and be able to control her husband. She believes her feminine qualities make her weak. <br>10. What has Lady Macbeth schemed to do to the King? <br><br></div><div><br>Lady Macbeth has schemed to have Macbeth kill the king while he is asleep in Inverness. <br><br></div><div><br>11. Why does the King come to Macbeth's castle?<br><br></div><div><br>King Duncan goes to Inverness in order to celebrate Macbeth’s bravery and new title and become better acquainted. <br><br></div><div><br>12.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Tough Questions- The first conflict begins after the witches spoke with Banquo and Macbeth. Macbeth has the idea of being king some day, so he needed to kill King Duncan. The bloody fight in Act 1 foreshadows a murder later on in the story <br><br>Aha Moment- when the three witches tell Macbeth that he has the chance to be king, Macbeth thinks it over while the power hungry Lady Macbeth encourages him to kill the king.<br><br>Words of the Wiser- “Lesser than Macbeth, and greater.Not  so happy, yet much happier. Thou shalt get kings, though thou be none" <br>The witches are giving Banquo advice by prophesying that he will be better off than Macbeth and his sons will be kings.<br><br>Contrast and Contradictions-  “Lesser than Macbeth, and greater”<br>The witches contradict their words when they tell Banquo that he will be less successful than Macbeth, but will be greater than Macbeth in the long run.<br><br></div><div><br></div>]]></description>
