On April 3rd 2007, I was named Rose. My mom decided on this name way before I was born. For almost a month that was my name. After more thought my parent felt like it wasn't the right fit, but then they had no idea what my name should be. My dad then brought up their engagement. My dad purposed to my mom over looking Tenaya lake in Yosemite. They both agreed that Tenaya was the perfect fit. They put Rose as my middle name and my full name became Tenaya Rose Higginbotham Vendig.

My name is important to me because it how I identify. Where my name comes from is a special place to me and my family I grew up living close to Yosemite and would visit often. Hanging by Tenaya lake from time to time felt pretty cool by association. I don't even need to think about my name being my name its familiar and is how people know who I am. It's how I introduce my self it how I am recognized and identified for my achievements. Without my name I wouldn't be held accountable for what I've done so far in life.

My mom one day decided that she wanted to go back to nursing school to become a nurse practitioner, she applied to UCSF and a year later we were moving from Bishop California to San Fransisco. I was excited to live in a big city compared to the small desert town I was living in. Also it would only be 2 years so if I hated it we were coming back (so I thought). I loved living in Bishop I was basically neighbors with all my friends and could walk a block to my grandmas house everything was familiar. But I craved the excitement of the big city. A week before we moved I found out we need to leave are dog behind at this point I lost a lot of excitement, we were going to live on campus in a 2 bed room apartment that wouldn't allow dogs, compared to our spacious house with our dog Pepper and our 5 chickens and our beautiful garden it didn't really appeal to me anymore. We moved the summer going into 2nd grade. Our friends through us a going away party, the next morning we were on our way I cried the whole way there. After the very long 8 hour drive we made it the foggy campus and moved in to our new home for the next 2 years.

This is important because it was a big transition in my life. Moving sf led to me moving to Berkeley. I hated living in san Fransisco it was honestly the worst two years but, it brought us to now. When I go back to bishop me and my friends always talk about how different I would be if I stayed. Having lived in two very different envitments taught me a lot and overall shaped who I am. Im glad i moved and wouldn't go back if I could.

When I was around 4 me and my mom would would volunteer at the animal shelter and walk the dogs. One day a black pit-bull lab puppy came in. We took him on one walk and we instantly bonded. After walking with him a couple more time I convinced my mom we should adopt him. We signed all the papers and picked him up from the vet. I remember being so excited holding his leash as we walked up the steps to his now home, that night we decided on the name pepper. Pepper at 4months old was found getting attack by 5 dogs and was taken into the shelter. So all I wanted for him was to have an easy flowing life after starting off not so strong.

Pepper is very important to me he was very very smart and felt as if he needed to protect. Pepper was aggressive towards certain people and dogs which left it hard to handle at least for my parents. I was always the one sympathizing for him. I felt I understood him, he was traumatized as a puppy and it left him living a stressful life. Last year we had to put him down, he was twelve years old but still very health which made it ten times worse. He has a special part in my heart and is overall very important to me I miss him deeply but know it was for the better.

I have always been a dog person until I met my neighbors cat Marcel. Marcel was the definition of a cool cat. I then decided I wanted a cat I begged and begged for a cat until one Christmas my mom surprised me with saying yes to a cat, the next day we went to multiple animal shelters. We then arrived at the Oakland spca and there was the last little black kitten. Without a thought we adopted her. She's been the best of the best.

My cat is very very important to me because she is a very good companion. We got a special bond, she is an outdoor cat so she does her own thing and then at the end of the day she likes to come chill with me. I don't know what I would do without her. She is my favorite.
