In 2019 the MMHS soccer program began our annual Kicksgiving event where our soccer players train with youth from the community. This event meant a lot to me personally, as it was one of the first school wide events that I was organizing. I was so nervous that participant turnout would be low, but Mr. Toledo was quick to let me know that he would be bringing many of his grandchildren and others to the event. On the day of the event—sure enough there comes Mr. Toledo with a whole soccer team himself 😄. The event was a success, and Mr. Toledo continued to show his support of our event by bringing participants year after year. I am so thankful for his support of Kicksgiving, his support of me personally, and all that he did for others. He will be greatly missed 💛

Mr. Toledo is the reason I joined cross-country. I remember the first week of summer school when I first went to Mira monte,He pulled me out of class and he said welcome to the team. He gave me a backpack and socks. He made me feel welcomed at the school. He believed I would be successful. He always checked on me to make sure I'm doing alright. He was funny,kind, a mentor and an amazing coach. I will miss him.

My first year working at MMHS many years ago was especially difficult for me. I was told that Mr. Toledo was the man that could help with a few troublesome students. He came in and observed my class, took down a few names. Immediately following that observation, the situation was handled and I was able to survive my first year teaching. I'm eternally grateful for his kindness, mentorship, and willingness to help a young teacher who at the time needed the help. He was and always will be an unforgettable man.

Mr.Toledo not only was he the best mentor he was a father figure to many. He has shown us never to give up, and i thank him from the bottom of my heart for pushing us to do better. Mr Toledo help many of us with very different problems, he was always the person who will give you the best advice and made you feel safe. He help me get through a very hard time when I was a junior and my senior year he would always check up on me. After I graduated I saw him a couple times after and told him everything I’ve done ever since and he told me how proud he was of how I changed my life around. Last time I saw him he got the chance to meet my daughter and he told me enjoy that beautiful life because in life you can only do one thing and that’s to live life to the fullest and hope to only make a change in someone’s life. Sure did mr Toledo change and made a very positive impact on many life’s. Will forever be thankful for you 🤍.

I did not have a relationship with toledo, tho i knew who he was, everyone did. I saw his relationships with everyone and how kind hearted he was for everyone, and practically treated everyone as if they were his family. And the few times i did have to go and talk to him he always made it feel comfortable as if it was our 15th time talking, gone too soon, but never forgotten

I had the privilege and honor to work with Mr. Toledo since the school opened in 2008. We shared many experiences through the good times and bad times, but I could always count on his support no matter what! He always treated staff and students as if they were family. He truly bled Cardinal and Gold and was the best ambassador of Mira Monte in every way.
As a teacher, sending a student to the dean's office wasn't as big of a deal as sending them to Toledo's office because he was like an angry father and would say exactly what they needed to hear and didn't sugar coat anything. He treated students as if they were his own children and I think students respected him for that.
I think the best way to honor him is by remembering our best experiences with him besides, if he thought we were sad about his passing he'd probably hit us with that big 'ol stick of his!
One of my fondest memories goes back to the early days of Mira Monte (2012?). During a homecoming football game, a student streaked across the field and Mr. Toledo chased him down and tackled him like a linebacker. It made it on Hometown Sports as hit of the week. I used it as an example of momentum for a couple of years.
He was truly a wonderful person and will be missed. He always said he was blessed, but I think we were blessed by knowing him.

Mr. Toledo, you mean the absolute most to me. You helped me become a better person. I was always excited to come see you in the morning and give you a hug. You motivated me to keep going. You helped me at my lowest and didn’t even know it. I would do anything to have you here and give you one last hug. If I knew that hug would’ve been the last, I would’ve held on a little longer. You made me happy. You believed in me. You made the world and everyone in it better just with a hug and a smile. Raising siblings at a young age was tough. I don’t know what I would have done if Mr. Toledo didn’t keep an eye on my sisters well they attended Mira Monte. Mr. Toledo was on top of it, keeping me updated with text messages whenever my sister ditched class, “mija your sister isn’t in class.” Working, going to college, and trying to raise teenagers well I was still growing up was so stressful and knowing he was keeping an eye on my sisters gave me some kind of peace. He didn’t only make sure I was connected to resources well I was at Mira Monte, he also made sure my sisters were able to have clothes for school. Mr. Toledo went above and beyond his job. He mad you feel like family. We come to this world to make a positive difference, Mr. Toledo accomplished that for sure. To the family of Mr. Toledo, my prayers go out to you.

Before stepping into Mira monte you knew my family and I. While being at Mira monte you weren’t only a counselor …. you were a coach, a father figure and the list goes on. I remember the first day of walking into my freshman summer I was already in his office getting in trouble and giving attitude. From that first day on I was his “bulldog”, told me to run cross country. And I did, I made new friends that became family because he cross country meant everything to him. I made it through my high school year because of you and your loving wife , you kept my family and I updated through your entire fight <3 I thank god for the times we spent even when you were getting me in trouble with your walking stick. We have cried and laughed together, also I will never forget that you and your wife always had me on my feet and pushing me to accomplish so many things in life.

From a parent. Coach Toledo helped me with my daughter her freshman year. She did not want to go to MMHS. She joined cross country and he encouraged her. Then she hopped on over to soccer. Coach Toledo was patient with her. He checked on her for me at school when she took too much Sudafed. He said, “Don’t worry boss I’ll go check on her. I got you” . I watched him help so many kids. I’m heartbroken. To watch all these young people paying tribute to him on here brings me to tears. Coach Toledo is one of a kind.

Coach Toledo was the flag football coach of five of my siblings, one of them turned into his colleague and friend at MMHS. Even after many years since their flag football days, my siblings would join Coach Toledo for the annual Turkey Bowl at Jefferson Park. I never played for him, but I did get to interact with him throughout the years of him coaching my siblings and at the Turkey Bowls. Coach Toledo was a very caring and loving man who always kept it real. He was stern when needed but more than anything he was very understanding. He helped my siblings get through some tough times. He will forever be missed! 🤍

Going on home visits with Mr. Toledo was always such an adventure. We'd always have our great talks and he'd remind me how proud he was of me for making a difference. I remember that during one of our many home visits, one of the students was supposed to be changing so that we could bring him to school. Mr. Toledo went to check on him to make sure he hurried up and got dressed, and then realized the student escaped through his bedroom window. Mt. Toledo and I ran to the van, and follow the student as he ran away from us. It was like a high speed chase, lol. Eventually, we caught up to him and brought him to school. Years later, we still laughed about it...

Toledo ❤️💛 I had the honor of working with this man from when we opened MMHS until I moved away in 2015. He was a pillar of MMHS & East Bakersfield. He had the unique ability to have both the teacher & kid's backs, call kids on their nonsense when needed, coach them up, support them, and truly care. If you needed help/backup, you had it. He had a big presence, a great laugh, & the best attitude and heart. This was more than a job, it truly was his calling. I will never forget when he saw me one day early in our first year of opening the school, and my first year teaching, and saw the pain/weight I was carrying with some of the horrible things going on with a few students. "Coach Toledo. Jesse Toledo. Mr. Toledo. Mr. T. Whatever you want to call me, just don't call me late for dinner!" That's how he introduced himself the night he read the name of every Senior in the class of 2020. We had closed the school due to COVID and wanted to do what we could to show our Seniors that we were thinking of them. He, Sam, and I went out to the empty stadium to film the sunset and Toledo announced EVERY ONE of the over 500 seniors over the PA. He was honored to do so, and I know how much he wanted to show these kids some love.
I absolutely loved to hear him announce, that day and at our games. Even his "Rooaaarrrr!" LOL. I can hear it now! He always had words of wisdom, a quick whit...and temper...a pure laugh, and a hug if you needed it.
I know he would respond with, "I'm humbled" to all of these stories of how he impacted so many.
Jesse, Mr. Toledo, you are loved more than you could ever know. The result of your work, your influence, and your love will outlive all of us.
I am so very thankful of the years I was able to know you. I am honored that you shared your frustrations, joys, and sometimes your tears with me. You are unlike any other.
