I hope our website gives you a glimpse of our happy, caring and busy school as well as providing you with key information you may need about your child’s educational journey. In our school we aim to provide our boys and girls with a broad and balanced curriculum, rich in learning experiences and opportunities to experience success. We also offer a wide range of extracurricular activities to cater for the varied interests of our pupils. Our school has played an important role in the  community since 1834 and we aim to continue that legacy and uphold our reputation, whilst ensuring we are progressive and responsive to the needs of our pupils and families. I hope that all who visit our website can share in our celebrations and achievements, getting a sense of who we are and the special place our school is for all who work and learn there.

Our school aims to create a learning environment where every child is encouraged and enabled to develop to their full and unique potential, and to the fullest possible extent.

Our school has successfully rolled out the Aladdin Schools Connect App to parents/guardians of children in our classes which is of benefit to all parties. Aladdin Schools uses state-of-the art security to safeguard information entered by the school and data is stored and processed in strict compliance with Irish and European data protection laws. We are currently using the following features:

• Noticeboard facility

• Push notifications

• Epayments and Money Collections

• School report card

• Permissions - Permissions lists are a feature in Aladdin Connect which allow schools to create and manage permissions lists for classes and various groups.

• Parent Teacher Meeting Scheduler -We will use this feature to organise and schedule parent teacher meetings in November. This will make it easier for parents to select their preferred time from the time-slots available.

As with all new projects and approaches, there may be some challenges to ‘iron out’ in the early stages. Please bear with us as we do our best to ensure that the system is rolled out as smoothly as possible.  

By default, both parents will have access to view their child’s contact information (including phone, address, email).

Shortly after the commencement of the new school year, you will receive an email/text message containing your registration link. There will be one link per parent which will allow the parent to access information for all their children in the school from one user account.

Please do not forward this email or share this link as this is a unique registration code for each parent for your child/children in this school. During registration, you will choose a password that will be used in conjunction with your email address to securely access the Aladdin Connect going forward. Once you are registered, you will be prompted to download the App. 

The main advantage of using the App is to receive immediate alerts for app messages sent by the school.

If a pupil has missed 10, 15 days the school will inform you via Aladdin. 

The Guidance also outlines the roles of the main statutory bodies involved in child welfare and protection: Tusla - Child and Family Agency, and An Garda Síochána. It contains details of how to report a concern about a child and what happens once the report is received by Tusla.

• School starts at 8:50am and Finishes at 1.30pm, (Junior & Senior Infants), 2.30pm (1st - 6th).

• Infants are to be collected from the school gates at 1:30pm. Other classes are to be collected from the school gates or walk home at 2.30pm. As always, we rely on your support and co-operation in these matters.

• Our school operates a DROP AND GO (morning)/ COLLECT AND GO (afternoon) policy. There is a pedestrian crossing from the footpath up to the school specifically designed to allow children to walk safely to the front yard of the school. It is important for everyone’s safety that children or parents do not park or block this pedestrian crossing.

• Drop off and collection times are busy, therefore we all need to be mindful of children's safety. In order to achieve this we are asking that you do the following:

• All children to wear high vis vests. They are free from RSA. The school has provided all children with one. The Parents' Association have provided spare ones also.

• All pedestrians to cross from the footpath to the pedestrian gate on the pedestrian crossing only. When walking up from the village walk on the footpath down to the pedestrian crossing. Please do not cut through the car park.

• Walk to school if possible.

• When your child has been dropped off safely, please move off as safely and swiftly as possible to avoid traffic congestion. 

• Please do not park on the pedestrian crossing. It needs to remain clear for children to cross safely.

• Please do not drive on the pedestrian crossing when children are walking on it. 

• At busy times to aid the swift movement of traffic please turn left when exiting the car park.

• The children will be let out in a staggered manner at 14:30- 1^st class, then 2^nd class, then 3^rd class, then 4^th 5^th and 5th/6th. 

• Please arrive at collection time- i.e. if your child is for example in 3^rd class, please allow parents to collect children from the younger classes first. Parking too early is causing a back log.

• Staff will be supervising the pupils when they enter the yard. 

• Teacher's continually speak to their class about road safety.

Here at Naul N.S. we have a Formal Uniform and a P.E. Uniform/School Tracksuit. Either may be worn. On P.E. days the P.E. Uniform/School Tracksuit must be worn.

Their special day will be celebrated in other ways such as singing 'Happy Birthday'. 

We ask that parents do not send party invitations to school. We have found that these invitations cause distress to uninvited members of the class group. This should be done outside of school environs.

Please adhere to this rule at all times, and no exceptions will be made. 

The ‘tripod’ type of pencil hold makes it easier for children to write. They need to learn that:

The pencil goes between the thumb and the first finger.

The next finger stops the pencil from falling down ( or is where the pencil rests).

The last two fingers are not needed and should be tucked underneath.

·         We use the phrase ‘froggy legs’ to remind the pupils of correct pencil grip.

The letter sounds are taught in the following order:

s (making /s/ and /z/), k, h, r, l, w, j

y, x, qu, v, z

Learning the letter sounds in groups as above, rather than alphabetically, enables children to begin building words as early as possible.

UFLI Foundations targets the following foundational reading skills: 

• Phoneme blending and segmentation practice 

• Accuracy and automaticity of grapheme-phoneme correspondences

• Decoding automaticity of words with previously learned concepts

• Explicit introduction of new concepts

• Decoding and encoding practice 

• Reading and spelling irregular words 

• Reading and spelling connected text

Regarding an issue/concern your child's teacher is the first port of call.

lf your child has a particular health problem such as allergies, asthma, diabetes etc., you should advise the school. The school should be made aware of the name and address of your family doctor.

If your child needs medication on a regular basis an ‘Application to Administer Medication’ form must be sent to the Board of Management for approval.

In the case of your child requiring use of an inhaler in school an ‘Inhaler Use Request’ form must be filled out and submitted to the school.

Parents must provide and leave in school the required medication i.e. epipens, inhalers etc.

It is the parent's responsibility to make sure the medication in school is in date.

Parents are required to update/train the staff annually or if medication/dosage changes.

For Health and Safety reasons the whole school is a 'Nut Free Zone'.
