Community Service Centers help individuals and families in need access a wide range of resources from shelter, food and clothing to domestic violence assistance, job training/placement and services for the formerly incarcerated. Clients can also get information about rental, utility and other financial assistance programs. The centers also serve as warming and cooling centers during periods of extreme weather. In addition to programs, Bessemer Park hosts fun special events throughout the year for the entire family including holiday events.

The garden is also used by the community as a place to socialize, hold special events, relax, and share the love of and tips for gardening.

We understand that any change in your living expenses can be challenging to manage. That’s why, BEGINNING JULY 7th, customers will be able to apply for assistance through our temporary ComEd Customer Relief Fund, a $10 million fund administered by Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago (NHS) and the Salvation Army that will provide eligible ComEd customers relief in the form of grants that can be applied to past-due bills. The ComEd Customer Relief Fund is possible through a one-time charitable contribution to NHS and the Salvation Army from Exelon, ComEd's parent company, and is designed to support customers in need.

We realize that our customers are bearing the brunt of increasing energy costs as demand rises and supply is not there to meet it. While ComEd and Exelon do not control energy supply costs, we are committed to advocating for customers and working to find solutions with those who do.

Eligibility

• Residential customers with past-due balances who are at or below 300 percent of the Federal Poverty Level may qualify for grants up to $500.

• Qualified 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations with past-due balances may qualify for grants up to $1,000.

About the Position

The Accounting Coordinator will play a crucial role in supporting the day-to-day finance department's functions and operations of the Foundation. This position will maintain strong internal controls while processing accounts payable and receivable, credit card expenses, recording daily revenue journals, and assisting in month and year-end financial close cycles. The Coordinator supports financial operations by preparing reports, assisting with audits, and performing ad hoc expense analysis.

Work Environment:

• This position requires attendance during business hours - 9:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday with two remote workdays.

• Occasional night and weekend hours are required to attend and assist at Foundation events or potential funder meetings and events.

• This position operates primarily in an office environment that is accessible. Some work at off-site locations may be required and those may not necessarily be fully accessible.

• This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, and filing cabinets.

• The employee may be asked to lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds.

• Travel between the primary office and other locations may be required.

Qualifications:

• Associate's degree in accounting/finance related field or equivalent work and lived experience

• Minimum of 3 years of relevant hands-on accounting experience; ability to calculate, post and manage accounting figures and financial records

• Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills

• Solid understanding of basic accounting terminology, and accounts payable/receivable principles

• Strong customer service, communication (verbal & written) and interpersonal skills

• Excellent problem solving and organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize and follow through

• Ability to manage confident matters with utmost integrity

• Must be proficient in Microsoft Suite

• Experience with accounting systems, Fund EZ preferred

• Ability to work independently and willingness to work in collaborative teams
