I only started working on my writing in English at the very beginning of my course. I tried to write in different genres, for instance reviews, opinion articles and summaries. What helped me in my first attempts was the fact that before the course I had already read some books that help you to write better, so I applied the hints in the book to my writing in english. And also, some videos on youtube about writing in English. My biggest struggle was with the sentence structure. Because I was using the phrases structure that I use in Portuguese and then just changing the words to english. And this is a recipe for disaster. I tried to improve this but I am still struggling nowadays.
My most memorable experience with writing was the time I spent almost one week writing an opinion article. The topic was about a discussion that was happening at the time evolving one of my favorite singers, I was very motivated at the time. I used to wake up and sleep thinking about the text. I Did a lot of searching to not put anything wrong. But near the end of the text I started to dislike the final result, it was turning into a very formal text and a kind of mechanic. But it showed me something that I should pay more attention to. Apparently I can show my personality in my writing in Portuguese, but, in English, my personality is overshadowed by my concern with the right vocabulary, the right sentence structure and the right punctuation. And this can block your creativity and the authenticity of the text.

Saying: An apple a day keeps the doctor away.

The saying "An apple a day keeps the doctor away" means that if you eat well you will have better health and then your hospital visits will be less frequent. This is obviously true, and a time ago I experienced that. A long time ago I was eating basically only fast food and I, which is not surprising, ended up getting sick. So, stopping fast food, eating more fruits and vegetables really improved my health, and now I barely go to the hospital, only for routine exams.

So, obviously, I learned a lot of things. But I would like to highlight three of those. First, when I think about writing what comes to my mind is practice, so the fact that almost all of the activities was endeed write made me develop my writing in English very much. Second, the discipline made me deal better with mistakes, not only with mine, but also with  the mistakes of my future students, undestanding that the error It is not something bad, something to avoid or be ashamed of. But is actuallly necessary and they are a signal that you are getting out of your comfort zone and getting better.
