"In The Kitchen"
The narrator, William, quietly walks past his mom instead of waking her up and consoling her. "Trying not to wake her, and lie about where I was going. And break her heart even more." William knows that getting revenge is bad, and that it will hurt those around him, but he is so full of anger and sadness that it doesn't matter. Williams actions relate to how people might feel in real life. Someone could be so focused on their feelings of sadness and hate that they don't notice the people struggling with the same thing around them.

"It was like the words came out and at the same time went in." Will expresses the state of shock he was in throughout this time period of the book. The death of his brother caused him to go through this grief and was forced to cope while in the elevator by being visited by old friends who are dead. When he was talking to these friends he was unable to comprehend what they were saying because he was too shocked for anything to process in his head. This reaction is very common when a traumatic experience happens to anyone and helps us understand what people are really going through when things like a death in their life happens.

The poem on page 70 talks about how he has his gun strapped to his back, and it helps deepen the understanding of the world because it describes how it felt like he had all the power, "Seemed like time stood still" from having this weapon on him. It also makes the scene nerve racking because of him having to wait in the elevator that seemed very slow, and it shows the word Down in the shape of an arrow. It shows us that people feel empowered by one object, and yet feel nervous about it.

He talks about how he felt after Dani passed and that he's never experienced that emotion before. This helps our understanding of the world because you realize how rarely this happens in life.

One thing that stood out to me in this novel, which answers the question, how does exploring the experiences of others deepen our understanding of the world? is where Dani shares her experience from the trauma she faced from the gunshots. Understanding her experience with the gunshots helps to deepen my understanding of the world because I understand how traumatizing hearing and experiencing gunshots could be, this helps me to understand the world because when I hear on the news of shootings I can understand how horrible this is if someone goes through a shooting.

"Stay put, I whispered to him. Stay strong, I Whispered to me. Because crying is against The Rules." William is trying to hide his emotions about his brothers death. He is scared about sharing his emotions because he hasn't before. he also doesn't want to break the rules. - the author wants to have Will seem like a "normal" teen by not having him express his feeling even though he need to, to move on from what happened in a away.

Reading this page helps us to explore the experiences of others by showing us that some people grow up in a dangerous world and have to deal with violence even as kids or young people. It deepens our understanding because we get to live through them, and we are able to see the horrors that they experience.
