These are Canopic Jars. They were used to dry out organs before placing them back in the body for mummification. after 1000 BCE, the organs were kept in the jars for mummification. The top of each jar represents a different god and holds a certain body part. There are four commonly used ones; Hapy the baboon headed god protected the lungs, Duamutef the jackal headed god protected the stomach, Qebehsenuef the falcon headed god protected the intestines, and Imsety the human headed god protected the liver. there were many more gods used, these are only a few.

This symbol was first depicted in the old kingdom of ancient Egypt. There is no real explanation yet to what it is. but there are many theories. such as; a strap to a sandal, a totem, a path for a sun and a sun on the horizon, a ceremonial girdle, a magic protection symbol (Sa), It has also been linked to Tjet (knot of isis) which is a ceremonial girdle.

A mummy is the body of a once living being preserved for their travel to the afterlife. It took, on average, 70 days to embalm a body. First you has to wash the body. Next they removed all of the organs, only the heart was left. Then the body was filled with stuffing. The body was then dried out using a substance called natron. After 40 - 50 days the stuffing was removed and replaced with linen or sawdust. Next the body was wrapped in linen and covered in a sheet called a shroud.Lastly the body was put in a stone coffin or a sarcophagus. The bodies were buried with items or clothing that were worth a lot so they would be able to live happily and use things in the afterlife.
