Yut-nori is a traditional game of Korea. In modern times, along with tug-of-war, it is the most well-known among folk games, and unlike other folk games, it is also the most frequently used game because of the advantages of board game elements such as forming a team with several people, being smaller in scale by comparison or having an appropriate play time.

Peace of mind is not what usually come with this game. You can see that any and all leisure time disappears if you spend a long time playing. When one side starts to lead first and gets one or more of their horses in the goal, it is difficult for the other teams to follow unless they can get a decently high number on their turn throwing the yut(a sort of two-sided die). If this becomes the case, the game is only fun for the winning side, and the atmosphere becomes harsh.

Historians have discovered the board which was used to play the old version of Yunnori in Guknaesung, where the capital of Goguryeo was. It is sure that Yunnori has been together with Han people since ancient period, but the exact period when Yunnori was borned is not known. There's a lot of theory about the origin of Yunnori. Someone says it was Buyeo period, the other say it was Gojoseon period, another say it was three kingdom period... but the one thing it is sure is that the words used in Yunnori were actually from the Buyeo language. In the period of Buyeo dynasty, each chief of each people like 濊, 貊 was called Maga, Uga, Jeoga etc. for each. Historians suspects the words Do, Gae, Geol, Yut were from the names of Buyeo's chief.

Throw four 윷 high and when it falls, when the flat side becomes one, 도. If there are two, 개. If there are three, 걸. When it's four, it's called 윷. On the other hand, if all four are bulging, it is called Mo. At this time, the person who comes out of yut or everything should be given a chance to throw again.Afterwards, moving the 윷말 moves forward, and it moves one compartment 도 , two compartments for 개, three compartments for 걸, four compartments for 윷, and five compartments for 모.When the horse of the same team arrives at the same location, you can carry it on your back. On the contrary, when my horse reaches where the other person's horse is, I can catch it. When you catch a horse, the opponent's horse falls out, and the catching team will be given one more chance. When you throw yut high, it must fall around once. As mentioned above, it is usually covered with blankets or blankets, but if it is out of range, it will be called a pleasure and the board will be invalid. There's a hidden punishment, "Backdo." If there is a backdo marked separately among the four yut, the horse must be returned one space back.

Yut-nori is a game that many families play every year on holidays, following a tradition that has been passed down from centuries ago. I think this game is interesting because it continues this tradition and passes it on to new generations and lots of people in those generations that really couldn't care less about old customs in a (mostly) family-friendly way.
