For this day I had to draw a contour line drawing of the object I wish to paint. I drew the contour of the sketchbook that I am going to paint on. I will most likely paint on it using acrylic paint.

Day 9: Balance

For this day I had to focus on the principle balance. I tried to make this flower asymmetrical by making one side have more red tubes than the other. This flower is called a spider lily and I decided to draw it because I thought it looked nice. I colored the flower red because when you look up a spider lily on google most of them are red.

For this assignment I had to focus on the principle contrast. I did this by making the flower in the foreground bigger than the ones in the background. I also did this by using colors that are on the opposite ends of the color wheel in comparison to each other. I also made the background a darker value compared to the foreground which is a lighter value.

For this day I had to practice the principle emphasis. I did this by placing emphasis on the flowers in the foreground by making the background black. I also made the flowers brightly colored so that they would stand out.

For this assignment, I had to practice the principle movement. I did this by making the background blurry and vertical in order to give the impression of something falling downwards. I made the foreground flower bright and a solid color so that it would stand out and draw your eye to it. I made the red tubes (I don't know what they're actually called) be more vertical to give the impression that the flower is falling down. This artwork is probably my favorite one out of this bunch.

For this day, I had to practice the principle pattern. I tried to emulate a galaxy pattern by using two different blues and some dots of yellow. I like the idea of a galaxy flower but I think if I try this idea again I should add more colors to it.

For this day I had to focus on the principle unity. I did this by drawing two similar looking flowers. I used markers for this because I liked how vibrant they are. I made the colors consistent to support this idea of unity as well.

For this assignment I had to practice the principle variety. I did this by drawing multiple versions of spider lilies. All of the other spider lilies I drew were based off of the red variant (even if I didn't color them red), so I decided to draw some other variants of spider lilies as well. If you look up white spider lily or yellow spider lily then these versions will pop up.

For these days I drew the final draft for my functional art project. I decided to go with a primary color scheme so that I wouldn't have to mix many different colors of acrylic paint. I made the background black so that the spider and eyes would pop out. I used markers to color this so that I could easily get my ideas onto the paper.

Day 21: Final Art

For this assignment, I combined everything I had learned from my previous assignments into one functional art piece. The universal concept I explored was dreams and visions. Luckily, there are no spiders with flowers for heads in real life, but you might still find one within a dream. You might also feel as though you are being looked at from all around you in a dream. The white paint splatters which kinda look like stars also add to this effect. I painted on the cover of a sketchbook which makes this functional art because you can use the sketchbook for something. The dominant principle of art I used was pattern. You can see this in the spider and in the paint splatters. The dominant element of art was color. You can see this in the primary color scheme I used and how the piece focuses on the different colors.
