Pershing was born in Laclede, Missouri on September 13, 1860. He graduated from West Point Academy. Pershing lost his wife  and three daughters in a fire,   his son survived. had  He fought in the Indian wars, Spanish-American War, and the Philippines insurrection. He commanded the American Exepeditionary Force during World War l. During this time, he he made a decision to divide his Army into 2 Armies so he could focus on higher level decisions, that would benefit the entire offense. Pershing went on to recieve some of the most prestigious awards in history.
