Ideas for Themes for 6 half term blocks:
1. The environment (physical, the earth, space) - in the widest sense, doesn't just have to mean ecologically, but could be specially, nature, sense of place, measurements.....etc

2. Rule and Law (how it all works) - formalities....grammar, perspective and rules in art, mathematical laws, science, history politics, etc.

3. Challenging preconceptions/Rebellions - revolutions and upheavals, new understanding in Science, rebellions in art

3. Order and Chaos - similar to above, but different angle

4. The unknown// explaining the unexplainable/ magic and mystery (P3) - art, science, maths (algebra?), witch hunts, other worlds

5. Cultures and civilisations (people culture, diversity and inclusion) - your subject from a global/ cultural point of view/ one culture's experience/ comparison of approaches, key figure from somewhere, statistics, la la la

6. Expression and communication- maths, music, drama, art, language, IT, history, etc.

British culture
e.g. Maths converting pints to litres,

Learner attributes and character development

International culture
e.g. International scientists, women in science

- EAL: start build terminology in art
- EAL in science - choose info appropriate for lg level
- EAL in maths - lg summarising
- EAL in SoW can-do statements

In Y 7i - they could spend half a term on each:

1.1 Being a historian

1.2 Being a scientist
Across all subjects, as an approach to learning. So every half term we all teach our subjects like Writers, Mathematicians, Artists, Scientists, Historian, Geographers......
The collaboration is in the approach to learning rather than the content...
e..g History dept can the ceate a brief for us, sharing practrices, of what it means to be a historian, so as teachers we are having to be creative, rethink our content and teaching and learn new skills and ways. Then same for Artists, etc

DRAMA AND LITERATURE
Link SOW to English in some way / plan some scripted work and performances to link with English text choices.

MATHS:
"Thinking like a mathematician" and looking at the habits of mind that we need / "four R's" of "resilience, reasoning, reflection and reciprocity (working with others)"...- other subjects would want to inculcate as well.

A common theme is very restricting to many subjects and puts focus on concept over skills.... and age appropriateness
