As the crew of kids travel with Miss Moore to the luxurious toy shop away from their impoverished neighborhood, the 'lesson' starts to become more about fairness and less about money itself (as Sylvia first thinks). 

The exchange between Sugar and Miss Moore shows how one young person might see the teachings of Miss Moore's attempt and educating the young people around her. When asked about the insane prices they saw at the shop--Miss Moore states, " “Imagine for a minute what kind of society it is in which some people can spend on a toy what it would cost to feed a family of six or seven."-- Sugar replies, " “that this is not much of a democracy if you ask me. Equal chance to pursue happiness means an equal crack at the dough, don’t it?" 

The most confusing part of this story for me was understanding the character of Miss Moore. Where did she go to college? Why is she back in her old neighborhood? What was her life like growing up that made her want to "educate" the younger kids? Based on my best guesses, this takes place sometime during westward expansion, in a frontier town barbershop. The struggle of the story is an internal struggle for the barber. He has the ability to kill one of the people he despises most, and also kill one of the revolutionary's enemies. They live in the city, and a group of kids and a teacher named Miss Moore go to a very expensive toy store where Miss Moore teaches them about fairness and how not everything is about money and how you can be happy even without having expensive things. The theme of this story is money cannot buy your happiness. 

I was very interested when they first arrived at the toy store and when they started to look at the labels of the toys. they slowly began to realize that they could not afford anything and buy the time they had saved up all of their extra money the toy would have been boughten already. I was very annoyed with the narrator when she was calling her friends and her teacher horrible names.

I really enjoyed this story because of the plot to the story. My favorite part to this story was when Ivan's father went into the bar and left Ivan sitting alone in the car. At this point, Ivan decided to eat matches they bought for the BBQ party and then and old man came up to Ivan's car and told him to not eat the matches. A part I didn't really like/ bothered me in the story was why Ivan's father would leave Ivan in the car. Ivan is only eight years old in the story and parents shouldn't leave their child in a car alone to go drinking at a bar. I also hated that the father broke his sobriety. Fortunately, a drunk man comes over to the car and notifies the child that he should not eat the matches. Overall, it was a charming short story. I think the drunk man also reminded the boy of his father who was sober for 3 months and was having party but while getting supplies for the party he went into the bar used to go to and got himself drunk forgetting his virtues. I think some of the main themes of this story is fear. I thought that the story was really well told. I like how detailed the story described the Barber´s thought process in the moment. The story was very suspenseful, as it ended with Captain Torres confronting the Barber saying that ¨They told me you(the barber) would kill me. I came to find out if it was true. But it’s not easy to kill. You can take my word for it.” Overall I thought that the story was very interesting because of the way it was told and had you on your toes throughout the book.

This woman, who's name is Ms. Moore, takes the main character and her cousins to a shop. In this shop are items that are really expensive. Some of these items are, like, 35 dollars. And on the way back from the shop,  the main character is wondering who would buy this because that 35 dollars could pay the rent and piano bill (for the main character). That 35 dollars and the main character's whole household could visit their grandpa out in the country. At the end of the story, Sugar, one of the main character's cousins, makes a really good point; that where they're living and when they're living, there's not much of a democracy. They all have "an equal chance to pursue happiness" and that means "an equal crack at the dough".
